Sea ice is encroaching unusually early on the central Bering Sea, threatening to grind Alaska's economically important snow crab fishery to a halt at the peak of the season, leaving crabbers facing major losses.
Very cold temperatures and strong winds are pushing the ice south at the rate of 10-15 miles a day, according to the National Weather Service. A rate of 2-3 miles a day is normal. The ice itself has a maximum thickness of two feet.
Crabbing boats are out retrieving their pots or sitting in Dutch Harbor rather than delivering their catch to the now iced-in Trident Seafoods processing plant on St. Paul, said Edward Poulson, an advisor for the Bering Sea Crabbers Association and longtime crabber.

The advancing ice will be BLAMED on Global Warming.

OMG, there is ONLY ONE thing to do now, to save the fish:
We MUST (and resist we MUCH, and we SHALL, be committed to this) all gather firewood and make huge bonfires night and day, till we can warm up the earth, and stave off this attack from the Icebergs.
[Another article about a month ago, stated thank God for our reserves of fossil fuels, as it will enable the human population to stave off FIVE ice ages]
Proof of global Warming!!! Proof of climate change. Sea currents are all disrupted. It is all our fault. /s
Uh, no thanks. Where I live in northern Ohio, we had zero days totally below freezing in November, one day in December, and nine so far in January. We have had only 22 inches of snow.
So far, this has been an amazingly warm winter for us. The cold that is hitting up north is stuck up there and we rarely get a blast of it. I am tired of daily highs in the 50s and 60s. I want some real winter weather.
Godspeed to the crews on the Deadliest Catch
Yea No real snow in East Tennessee and 48 degrees at this minure. Several thunderstorms the past week or so. A few good snows and several days of hard freezing not above the teens are needed. It’s not good for human nor nature too not have some good freezes.
It’s obviously the start of another ice age!
Winters vary. The winter of 1976-77 it was colder at Great Lakes Illinois at the Naval Base than Fairbanks on many days. Even lakes down in East Tennessee had a foot - two feet of ice in places that winter.

I like it! I’m in the Lake Effect Snow Belt, and not having to constantly shovel snow has been great!
No snow on the ground in the People’s Republic of Red Hampshire...I tweak skiers and snowmobilers by telling them that they are being punished for voting for Romney... :-)
Romney not attacking Obama is not an issue here. I support Newt, not Romney. I guess I’m just tired of Freepers who keep complaining about attacks and lies on Newt. Cain was destroyed because he didn’t prepare himself for the last accusation. Instead of scrutinizing himself so he could anticipate it, he and his team were busy blaming the media, etc. When his wife claimed she never known about the woman, he’s done. Why didn’t he talk to his wife during the early waves of allegations?
I don’t want the same happen to Newt. He and his team have to anticipate any possible attack and how to handle them effectively, before they come, regardless the source of attacks. Now we see two poll outlets, including one ran by someone close to Newt, showing Romney is slightly ahead. No doubt, if the trend is correct, the negative campaigns against Newt are working.
So, that is where all the ice is this year. We sure haven’t had it here in the Western NY area this year. Lake Erie not frozen, way below normal temps and snowfall, ski resorts are hurting. Another sign of the Apocalypse? :0
My sister is moving back to Cattaraugus County after 40 years in Tennessee -- she's looking forward to coming home but is worried sick about our Winters. Her moving date is March 1st, so look for major lake effect on Feb. 29.
Naw, what Alaska needs is a high speed rail line, the cure-all for anything.
Global Warming at it’s best.
