Mitt Romney now leads Newt Gingrich by eight points in the volatile GOP presidential race in Florida, according to a new poll from Insider Advantage.
In another Insider Advantage poll released Monday, Gingrich, riding a wave of momentum after his resounding victory in the South Carolina primary, led Romney by eight points, 34 percent to 26 percent. Now, however, after several days in which Romney has hammered Gingrich over his consulting work for mortgage giant Freddie Mac, the former Massachusetts governor leads the former House speaker, 40 percent to 32 percent.
In addition to slamming Gingrich on Freddie Mac, Romney has sought to raise questions about Gingrich's tenure as speaker of the House. He has called on Gingrich to release "all of the records" from the House ethics investigation of him in the 1990s. Gingrich has attempted to brush off Romney's attacks, calling him a "desperate" candidate.
Though the super PAC supporting Gingrich, Winning Our Future, recently received a $5 million contribution from Miriam Adelson, the wife of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, and announced a $6 million ad buy in the Sunshine State, Romney's campaign and the super PAC supporting it, Restore Our Future, still hold a big money and advertising advantage.
Romney began ratcheting up the pressure on Gingrich during Monday's debate in Tampa Bay. The candidates face off again on Thursday night in Jacksonville.
Insider Advantage surveyed 530 likely Florida Republican voters on Wednesday. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

I’ve never heard of “insider advantage”.
Not sure I’m believing this one.
Just makes me sick. Guess the force is too strong. When you have every freakin media outlet and their commentators flat out saying they hate him, what do you do?
Not looking good
Gingrich has got to hit out another one in the CNN debate tomorrow night in Jacksonville, FL.
This looks like an outlier. No way Mitt is at 40%. McCain with all the wind at his back 4 years ago only ended up with 36% after all the dust settled. They may be close, but this doesn’t compute.
16 point swing in 3 days?
Newt wasn’t too hot in debate the other night, but Romney wasn’t outstanding.
I don’t know. I hope it is not true but it is hard to discount all the polls. We shall see.
Nonsense.
Romney is hated to begin with.
Florida has elderly who will be murdered
by ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE.
They will awaken.
Drudge is going all out against Newt. Check out the latest updates.
With Big Photo of Reagan:
NEWT FLASHBACK: ‘The Reagan administration has failed, is failing, and without a dramatic change in strategy will continue to fail... President Reagan is clearly failing’...
Newt has tomorrows debate to knock Romney out!
I heard he was ill in the last debate, and Brian Williams certainly did him no favors in the format.
Inside Advantage is Newsmax, and run by a guy named Tyler who was somehow affiliated wt Newt. Bet they’ll show it closing by next Monday. -:)
Thanks Drudge. Looks like your Newt attacks are paying off for you.
The GOP can shove it. If they pick Mitt, I quit. I refuse to vote for a gun grabbing socialist. He is Obama. Everyone of the idiots that supports Romney as the nominee deserves everything they are going to get from another 4 years of Obama.
I will never vote for Romney. If we are going to have a pro abortion, gun grabbing socialist with zero integrity in office, let it be a Democrat.
All fun and games.
Unless they end up like the Goebbels..
“Brian Williams certainly did him no favors in the format.”
That is exactly right, The format was purposely set up to disfavor Newt such as silencing the crowd and the questions being asked.
We're our own worst enemy.
We don’t want Romney or his Romneycare — just like we don’t want Obama or his Obamacare!
Go away, Willard!
