Geithner: I won't serve second term
By Peter Schroeder - 01/25/12 04:27 PM ET
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner does not anticipate serving a second term under President Obama.
Geithner said in an interview with Bloomberg Television that he is "pretty confident" the president would not ask him to stay on if he is reelected.
"I'm confident he'll be president. But I'm also confident he's going to have the privilege of having another secretary of the Treasury," he said, adding that he planned to do "something else."
Geithner mulled leaving the administration this summer once a deal to raise the federal debt limit was reached, but was persuaded to stay on by the president.
"I love my work. And I think, if a president asks you to serve, you have to do it," he told NBC News in August.
The former head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York played an integral part in steering the nation through the financial crisis that hit shortly before President Obama took office, and has served as a vocal advocate for the president's economic policies.
A key piece of that effort has been the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. Geithner said Wednesday he was not losing sleep over complaints from Wall Street that the overhaul is onerous and restrictive.
"I would not worry too much about them," he told Bloomberg. "I would worry more abut the basic confidence of Americans that they're going to face more opportunities, more likely to find a job, keep a job, save for college, save for a dignified retirement."
No need to worry Timmy. President Gingrich wasn’t going to appoint you anyway!
I heard he is taking over Turbo-Tax Online. LOL
Wonder if he’s run into any of “our” RED STAMPED bills?
I do find it amusing that this comes right after Obama’s SOTU. You gotta appreciate the rats that sense when the ship is seriously listing...
It’s time for Tim to make some serious cash.
He’ll head for Wall $treet and cash in his chips.
I take that as Geitner’s endorsement for Obama.
I don’t know who could possibly follow Turbo Tim’s act. Jon Corzine? Eliot Spitzer? Bernie Madoff?
Ron Paul for secretary of the Treasury Dept! Drop out now.
“We’re saved?”
Not hardly.
At this point, no matter what anyone does or doesn’t do, there is much unpleasantness, to put it politely, lying ahead.
Looks like Timmy paid his back taxes for nothing.
Needs a half-submerged Hussein campaign sticker on the rear.
“Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner does not anticipate serving a second term ...”
I agree, I can’t even imagine Romney appointing him.
We arent safe unless Obama goes with him.
Can you imagine the Holder clone that would be timmies replacement???
He wants to have more time to figure out how to fill out his tax forms.
Where’s he going? To be the CEO at TurboTax?
His replacement will be just as bad. You can’t get a job like this unless you are a known crook who is willing to cover up all the thieving and law breaking of previous occupants.
Guess this means his pockets are full. Time for him to skip out to some Country without extradition.
