In short, the markets think Obama is more likely to defeat Gingrich than Romney, so when the former speaker's fortunes elevate, so do the president's.
Over the last week, Gingrich's likelihood of winning the nomination has climbed from about 5 percent to about 30 percent. Currently, Gingrich is about 39 percent likely to defeat Obama if he makes it to the general election, while Romney is about 44 percent likely to reach the White House if he's the nominee.

David M. Rothschild joined Yahoo! Research in the summer of 2011. He holds a B.A. in History and a Sc.B. in Engineering from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in Applied Economics (with a concentration in Business and Public Policy) from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, granted in May 2011. Davids primary body of work is on the gathering, analyzing, and aggregation of individual-level information into forecasts of both upcoming events and individual behavior. He has a secondary research agenda in studying the effect of government policy on the availability of goods and services. The graph does not prove what its author (public policy wonk, aka Democrat) claims. It's a nice bit of prediction market economics and is subject to its participants as much as any other market demographic. And we all know how much we trust those with the disposable cash to skew a stock.

Welcome, troll.
The zero must be scared to send in such as yourself.
No need to ask my wife of so many years. She's been pulling for Newt for months and her political instincts have been proven time and time again.
He wasn't my first choice but he can beat the zero handily.

Not roll over and fetal surrender like Awful Dull, and Juan Mc Lame!
We need a scrapper. Not a milquetoast liberal calling himself a conservative!

I hope someone can answer this question for me:
If Romney cannot beat Newt-—why in the hell do these people think he can beat Obama.
That just doesn’t make sense.
Is Newt that anathema to Independents?

Women simply won't vote for him. Don't believe me?
Ask one.
I know plenty of women who will vote for Newt. My wife thinks he is the best candidate this cycle. Oh well, ZOTTED n00bie.

Well, you see, the GOP establishment is going to insist to the country in November that Romney is more ELECTABLE than Obama. That argument works every time.

My wife has been with Newt from day one. She’s working in the Cardiac Cath Lab when she’s not treating strokes, cranial bleeds and such. She’s been right on every candidate since her first vote in a Presidential election. After 30 years, I know she’s right!
