Romney gave $4 Million donations to Mormon Church. Do Mormons help the poor with these donations?
January 24, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

On his income taxes released today, we see that Romney gave $4 Million tithe donations to Mormon Church. Do Mormons help poor Americans with these donations? Do the Mormons have something similar to Catholic Charities, which helps thousands of Americans (both Catholic and non-Catholics) with basic life needs, medical help, childcare help, education help, etc. The main question is do Mormons use the $4 Million from Romney to ONLY advance the Mormon religion without helping the American poor. Does Romney even know or care what the Mormon Church does with his $4 Million donation? I think that is a fair question.

I think that is a fair question.

What do you want to do? Pass a law to force religious institutions to spend their money a certain way?

I don't know the answer, but I do know what my guess would be.

No I did not mention passing a law for religious donations. I just wanted to know to what extent Romney blindly gives money to the Mormons without knowing or checking what they do with the money. For example, does Romney question or influence what the church does with his $4 Million donation.

“I think that is a fair question.”

I think that it is an irrelevant question.

As I understand it, the Mormon church has as strong a relief program for its members as does any religious institution.

But many, many tax exempt donations don’t go to the poor—whether religious or nonreligious donations are considered.

(And I’m about as strong a anyone-but-Mitt poster as anyone on this board who would still vote for him ahead of Obama.)

That is not a question a Conservative would ask.

He’s short; $4 million is only 3.3 percent of $121 million. He owes the church $8 million more for the year in question. Don’t Mormons require tithes? In UT, aren’t they deducted from paychecks as “first fruits”?

I believe they help out other Mormons that are in need.

The Huntsman Cancer institute is a good example of a wealthy man doing good Mormon or not.

Frankly I think this whole Mormon Menace thing is pretty bizarre anyway.

The answer is, it depends on what they tell the church to spend it on. If they send it in as fast offerings, it is used only for the poor. If they send it in as perpetual education fund, it is used to educate the poor. If they send it in as tithing, it’s used for whatever the leaders want to use it for, mostly (judging on output) building maintenance and construction, media campaigns, and administration, probably in that order.

Interesting question. According to the SLC lds they shelter, feed and clothe the poor of the entire world.
The reality is not that. however, they have built some really nice malls and built farms that their people are required to work in (no pay), and some fantastic “temples” that only 15% of mormons can see the inside of......
They can do what they want, I just wish they would stop lying about it.

You’ve been here long enough to realise that Mormons are very menacing to lots of freepers.

An odd reply from some one with your tag line.
You should be curious as to where charity money goes.

No, no law. Just quit donating to those who use it in a way that does not please you.

How do you know if he's aware of how The Mormans spend the donations or not?
