On his Monday radio show, Rush Limbaugh advised former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to stop using his hobbyhorse to rip on the media publicly, although many have credited the tactic for his win in the South Carolina primary.
This presents a huge stumbling block potential for Newt, Limbaugh said. He is vulnerable on the very thing he can do better than anybody else. He had better fully embrace his conservatism and not make it a part-time thing. The days of being able to keep this momentum going by ripping on the media are over. The standing ovations for taking on the media are over, or they have very short lifespan.
Limbaugh explained that Gingrich should focus on his own vulnerabilities, specifically where he has embraced activism for liberal causes.

Un, How many successful campaigns has Rush won?
Yeah, I thought so.
Let Newt be Newt !!
Actually, I agree with Rush on this....it can be a fine line (depending on the question) ....and Newt should NOT overdo it.
But Newt should listen to RL's advise about always speaking conservative.
your link takes us to a site on Newt supporting the death penalty for using marijuanna
Rush, you’ve lost quite a lot of good will amongst the public for your weird, bombastic, and unhelpful rants about Newt. I suggest YOU step back, and adopt a cooler, more studied approach to your commentary about what’s going on with Gingrich’s campaign.
There’s YOUR warning.
I agree with Limbaugh. Although I liked the outcome of South Carolina, I think Newt’s outrage will become a big yawner if he overplays it. Time to move on. Go after the media on occasion, but don’t be some dramatic about it each time. It’s going to lose it’s steam. I’m no political analyst, but my instinct would be to avoid trashing the other candidates now. Mitt and Santorum are already showing they are going down that path. Stay above the fray. Concentrate on Obama. Concentrate on his plan to get this country going in the right direction.
Actually, Rush has become very popular with conservatives for doing that very thing...Newt won’t slam the media unless they put him in that position. So far his flame throwers have been justified.
Early this morning, prior to the Limbaugh broadcast, my local conservative talk radio hosts were already concerned that Newt might be tempted to overplay this hand. They thought he should back off for now. They thought that if he plays this to the end that it will be old news by the time the general election rolls around.
I support executing all drug users, including marijuana users. It’s a great idea!
Is this thread weird, or what?
Rush has really lost it. Him, the biggest bomb thrower and disrespecter of the lame stream media, advising a Republican candidate not to be too hard on media jerks?!
And this stuff about executing marijuana users!
Anyone who lives in “reality” understands that the media is a mere extension of the DEMOCRAT party! The sooner people realize that the better off they will be.
The next time the media brings up Newt’s ex-wife issue Newt needs to bring up LARRY SINCLAIR and ask them why the media ignores that name!!
The media IS THE PROBLEM! Any Republican candidate that gives the media a free pass is never going to win an election. NEWT has every right to nail the media to the wall every chance he gets.
Somehow the wrong link was posted. As for Newt he was right to blast Juan Williams for trying to portray him as a racist. I think Newt was shocked at the ovations. As for his blasting King..he was right once again. Newt ONLY puts the press in their place when they try to attack his character. We don’t want someone to cower or stutter!
Thanks, Rush, but Newt really doesn’t need any advice from you.
Well said. And everyone else, give it a rest. Newt is no dummy. He has learned from mistakes of the past like WE ALL DO! Just support him and let him do his thing. MSM is enemy #1, and if you don't think so, you are in their camp, Period!
I agree.
I also agree with Mr. Limbaugh, however if the Media 'moderators' are talking garbage, or trying to win points with their leftist friends, rather than 'moderate' a debate to provide benefit to the electorate -- we'll be glad to see Mr. Gingrich beat on the Media like a Pinata.
Mr. 'New Tone' Bush the Second did not serve America well by allowing the Media and Dem to shape the message. Beating on the Media until they learn their job is to report, and spread information, and not advocate (leftist and Godless positions) - is welcome.
I’m glad someone else on this forum recognizes that Limbaugh is in the tank for Romney. Some people seem to forget Limbaugh endorsed Romney in ‘08.
Rush, with all due respect, which is in fact a great deal of respect, Newt Gingrich is doing just fine. Further, he is doing so WITHOUT your help.
My local “conservative” talk radio host, who incidentally subs for Limbaugh occasionally, said Gingrich is “dead to him” because of the Bain Capital corporate raider criticism of Romney,(and he excoriated Perry about it too). But this host repeatedly says he “loves Newt”. I seriously think either the guy is trying to move up to national in the Clear Channel Communications Family, or he is schizophenic.
This is the one piece of advice Newt should follow above all others.
It'll be the Tea Party support that wins the nomination for him and it's his ability to convincingly explain conservative principles that is the basis for his support.
But he's said and done some things that make people doubt his conservative credentials and thus hesitant to support him. People are long past tired of being played by politicians, the Tea Party especially so.
He could quickly go from Tea Party hero to the most hated man on Earth if he is playing conservative for votes.
