On the heels of Newt Gingrichs trouncing of Mitt Romney in the South Carolina primary, Republican Party brass are privately expressing deep concerns that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrichs high unfavorable rating in national polls could prove catastrophic to the so-called down ballotthe House and Senate races under the presidential raceand may even threaten the Republican Partys control of the House of Representatives...

“I’m a fiscal conservative, and a social libertarian.”
“No you’re not. You’re just a cheap, chickens%$# Democrat.”
Steve Schmidt
That’s all that needs to be said. He is not a strategist - all he has done is fail in life.
He and Nicolle Wallace were the two who were throwing Palin under the bus while they worked for mcstain.
Steve probably aint happy that Palin is indirectly helping Newt.
“It would be much much more bitter in a bankrupt, post-United States America.”
One reason the ‘conservative’ radio talk people have lost a lot of credibility is they barely touch on that very point. The consequences we face by failing to reverse course sharply - and soon - are unimaginable.
Hopefully Rush, Sean, etc. will read your post and make it clear to so many who don’t see what’s coming.
I am hating the GOP establisment more with each passing hour! They really don’t get it do they?
But the Republicans who are both solid conservatives and (apparently) free of warts chose not to run. If Barbour, Daniels, DeMint, Ryan, Jindal had run, I'd likely be supporting one of them instead of Newt.
But they all wimped out, so I have to go with the most conservative candidate who is left, "likable" or not.
Talk about pushing Granny’s wheelchair over the cliff !!!
actually this reminds me of Charlie Crist establishment endorsements.
The establishment went so far as to endorse crist during the primary. Rubio worked and beat him.
Now we have crist’s buddy running for the nomination...along with all the better candidates.
The establishment has been not doing well.
GOP strategist Steve Schmidt, who previously served as Sen. John McCains senior campaign strategist, told MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow that if Mr. Gingrich wins next weeks Florida GOP primary, there will be a panic and a meltdown of the Republican establishment that is beyond my ability to articulate in the English language. People will go crazy.
FUSM
That would be the same Steve Schmidt who routinely offered vicious and unfounded opinions about Sarah Palin’s mental state to the media in 2009, currently promotes gay marriage, and argues that conservatism is “exhausted”. He ought to be a Democrat consultant, and probably will become one once he’s convinced they’’ll pay more.
“Limbaugh is talking about this now...”
Yes, and he is spinning it in such a way as to make it seem that this is the moderates genuine and legitimate concern, and we need to understand and respect it.
Limbaugh has become almost unlistenable. Except to monitor him for purposes of knowing what the establishment wants us to think.
This is the same mentality that believed we’d be in a cold war with the Soviet Union for all eternity.
Spineless asshats. Conservatism wins elections. It’s just that simple. It also heals nations, but this is something they lose almost as soon as they get to DC.
Every year that passes makes the things Reagan and Thatcher achieved seem more amazing and improbable.
These are the same people that gave us Hastert and his gay friends, cry baby Boehner and Lamar Smith, ‘champion’ of the open and free web.
Agreed on all points.
They should be more concerned about down ballot problems if we have another mushy moderate like McCain.
Suppress the base or Suppress part of the moderate constituency. I bet a fired up conservative base will drag a percentage of moderates and independents with our excitement. The “undecideds” really just want to say they voted for the winner. The are worthless mentally, but useful if we can get them to vote with us.
Republican Party brass.... can KMA.
Wow, I think I have the beginning of a poem. ;>)
It’s a little different to have a book writer say it and a Senator running for the presidency say it.
I agree with her because one does not do that and come out a winner.
One has other people do it, like the leftist do. Turnabout is fair play
and I don’t agree they would be stooping to their level. I’m tired of that thinking.
We’re fighting for our very existence and we need to fight fire with fire.
—Putting a wuss on the ballot can cost you as well, if Republican voters are so disgusted that they are unmotivated to show up.—
Exactly. I’ve gone on record that if Mitt is the candidate, I’m not voting.
Another RINO stampede.
The “Republican Establishment” is one of the key players in the destruction of this country.
Exactly correct!
