In Florida, Romney Takes Aim At Resurgent Gingrich

By Philip Rucker and Amy Gardner January 22

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Mitt Romney unleashed his harshest personal attack of the campaign on Newt Gingrich here Sunday, saying “it was proven that he was a failed leader” as the former governor pivoted sharply to regain his footing in the wake of Gingrich’s stunning resurgence over the weekend.

As the dramatically altered presidential campaign moved to Florida, Republican leaders braced for a long and potentially bitter nominating contest. After upending the campaign in South Carolina with a commanding victory, Gingrich moved quickly to capitalize on it. He launched an aggressive fundraising blitz — aides said his “money bomb” raised $1 million in eight hours — and hired new staff to help him compete with Romney as the contest moves to a much more expensive front.

Romney, meanwhile, tried to recast the race as a choice between two kinds of leaders. “We’re not choosing a talk show host,” Romney told an evening rally of more than 500 in Ormond Beach. “We’re choosing the person who should be the leader of the free world.”

“Speaker Gingrich has also been a leader,” Romney said. Then he brought up the ethics investigation into the former House speaker. “At the end of four years, it was proven that he was a failed leader, and he had to resign in disgrace. I don’t know whether you knew that. He actually resigned after four years in disgrace.”

Romney also sought correct his handling of his taxes, saying he would release his most recent returns on Tuesday and acknowledging his previous reluctance to do so was a “mistake.”

This race is turning nasty up front and personal with Romney unleashing a torrent of negative ads. We must hope this backfires.

Isn’t Mitt calling Newt “a failed leader” a case of the pot calling the kettle black?

You may find this interesting....

I was just listening to Michael Savage's podcast from last Friday. He said he is good friend's with a major figure in the media that is respected by both major political parties. Said he would not disclose the name, but said the following.

The major Media guy asked Mitt why he had not been on Michael Savage's radio show after he has been supportive of him. Now keep in mind that Mitt Romney in 2007 had a private dinner with Michael Savage. At any rate, Mitt's reply was because he hates conservatives. This is according to this major Media guy. So if this is true (which I suspect that it is the case), then can you imagine what he will do once in office?

the good thing is that he’ll throw away any chance at VP. If he’d been gracious and respectful towards Newt, Newt may have picked him as VP to mollify the establishment and his supporters a la when Reagan picked Bush. But now that’s much less likely to happen.

So we don’t have to worry about that.

Let’s see:

Brings a majority to the Republican legislature. Check.

Creates a plan to address the relevant and important issues of the day. Check.

That plan, The Contract with America, was 2/3rd completed when he left office.

Welfare Reform? Check

Lower taxes? Check

Balanced budget 4 years in a row? Check

Contract with America initiatives brought unemployment from 7% to 4%. Check

Check

Check

Check.

And your record of accomplishment Mitt?

Interesting. That's why Michael is always bad mouthing Newt... Savage is an attention whore and this explains why he likes Mittens over Newt. He likes anyone who pays him attention.

So what did Savage say when he heard that? Like he had been HAD, I would presume?

True but I have a feeling that this is probably the truth.

It would Social Health Care, the gun grabbing, the flipping on all the issues, etc...

So Savage STILL supports him? Hope he has noticed the wheels are coming off Romney, quite against all odds based on the guarantee of MONEY, ORGANIZATION and ON THE GROUND OPERATIONS! :)

Gingrich earned a place in American history books, and as a conservative Republican.

Romney has also held office, he destroyed the state party, couldn’t run for reelection, left with 34% approval, and the Governor’s seat has been Democrat ever since.

The only successes that Romney can claim are left wing ones.

Somebody needs to get out the word about what Romney did in his four years as Governor, how he failed, and the destruction he left behind for his party and the state. He was 48th among Governors, in popularity.

I don’t know. He did give cudos for Newt blasting John King, but didn’t say anything beyond that. He did talk a lot about an article that he wrote that appeared in USA Today last Friday defending the Marines for urinating on the Taliban.

Here is a little snip of it,

“The piling on our Marines has done far more damage to the morale of our fighting men than our soldiers’ actions. And yet we hear Marine Corps Commandant General James Amos calling the act “inconsistent with (our) high standards of conduct,” then whining about our commitment to “upholding the Geneva Conventions, the laws of war and our own core values.”

This in the face of Taliban atrocities — car-bombings, beheadings, the murder of women and children — that flout the Geneva Conventions and yet are routinely ignored by the media and our military higher-ups, who also downplayed the Fort Hood massacre by Maj. Nidal Hasan.

Our fighting men must be supported at all costs at a time like this. How can we in good faith ask them to put their lives on the line against the vilest, most extreme of enemies while at the same time we attack them in the press at every turn?”

The more I see mittwitt, the more he reminds me of some scifi program that had reptillian aliens that took on the form of humans. His face just doesn’t seem human to me—just kind of a mask of sorts.
