I think the storm may have claimed the lives of 1000 sailors in the fleet, about 100 or so on the Victory. Poor writing, I agree.

Very interesting comments about the wood. As a young man, I did a bunch of salvage and relic diving around the Channel Islands in Southern California. We recovered many artifacts around old wooden hulls that had been down for well over a century. Much of the wood was still in tact. It is just difficult to say what effects what types of woods. The water temps ranged from about 55-70 F depending on the time of year mainly and depth.

Superior Woods -- Recovered Submerged Wood Timbers. I need one of those beams to replace one in my family room that has twisted. I need the money first, however.

See #45. Just do a Google search on Salvaged Great Lakes Wood, and you will find several sources. Apparently much of the North Woods forest lies at the bottom of one of the Lakes. The water is VERY cold, and the wood is just lying there like a gold mine, waiting to be recovered.

Loved my visit to Warwick Castle and several days at Bath. The peacocks were most interesting because, at the time, I was trying to raise peacocks in Wisconsin. I kept those big birds for about 10 years before they eventually died off, one by one.

The HMS Victory that will be recovered from the sea bed is its predecessor, which sank in 1744 with all hands lost. Contemporary accounts (one of which is posted above) put its crew at around 1100, which is larger than the crew of the 1805 HMS Victory.

A flagship returning to England following the successful rescue of a blockaded British squadron and merchant convoy would likely be transporting a number of sick and injured from other ships, too.

Oh, that sounds wonderful. You are very kind. There are so many things I want to see. Very interested in historical sites as well as seeing anything related to the great literary tradition of England.

We want to make the trip within the next 1 or 2 years. Only 2 things holding me back right now: 1) I do not want to fly anywhere right now because of the obnoxiousness of the TSA, and 2) I am a bit nervous about traveling outside of the US right now.

After the Kenyan Infestation is over and we have a president that actually makes terrorists afraid of crossing the US, I will feel more courageous.

The husband has been on business trips to the UK a few times before I met him, but he did not do much sightseeing.

Same here I have no flown for some time now due to the TSA, I do not want to be groped by some high strung nobody looking to get their jollies.

Just let me know what part of the country you’;d like to go to and I can give you some suggestions.

I.E the south west is really nice for old England, small villages, beautiful beaches and yes even palm trees plus the weather is warmer than anyone there.
King Arthur, round table etc, then there is the places where the locals use to go to the cliffs and use lamps to bring ships on to the rocks s they could crash the ship and rob it.

South, Royal Navy is based, HMS Victory, Stonehenge, Amesbury, Salisbury,

The midlands , I’d say Shakespeare country, beautiful country Warwick castle etc.

North west , lake district Chester where the Romans spent a lot of times and the blue john mines.

North east York is a must, without a doubt , it;s a beautiful small city with so much history and used to be the capital , Romans, vikings and get to the viking museum.

South east, London of course but it is a tourist trap and very expensive, white cliffs of Dover, Oxford, Cambridge, Bath etc.

Any time drop me a note and I’ll help you out as much as I can and give you more detail but they are off the top of my head.

My great great grandma lost all five of her sons and my great grandma lost all five of her brothers, they were gassed in the battle of the Somme. :(
