Psst: Hear the Roar and Pay Attention
American Thinker ^ | 1/22/12 | C. Edmund Wright

After Thursday's debate was over in Charleston, I assumed that Newt had not only survived the Marianne episode, but had benefitted from it. I also figured he would win S.C. and that Santorum would fade as a challenger to him. Everyone I knew who saw the debate reached this same conclusion.

Yet as incredible as it may seem, all day Friday we were treated to multiple reviews from members of the conservative media on how Rick Santorum "won" the Thursday night debate in Charleston and that how this would help him in South Carolina. Dick Morris flatly proclaimed that Santorum did so well he might sweep in and take second from Newt Gingrich. Morris also predicted this would mean a S.C. win and nomination for Mitt Romney.

Terrence Jeffrey also proudly proclaimed a big Santorum win in the debate. On the Rush Limbaugh Show, the host refused to give his analysis, but mentioned multiple times that his personal email caucus was swept by the Pennsylvania Senator. Charles Krauthammer, meanwhile, admitted that Newt won it "in the first three minutes" but that Santorum had a very strong night after that.

And I'm thinking: what debate did these folks watch? Do they not pay attention to the crowd reaction? Do they not know what it indicates?

This is exactly right. I knew it after hearing Gingrich on Thursday night as well. I was one of those people cheering in my living room. I don’t want a candidate to tell me that Obama is a “nice guy who is in over his head.” I want a candidate to tell me that Obama is what he is - a dangerous, arrogant utopian statist who is consciously destroying my country, and I want him stopped. I want someone to take it to the media, who protects him and lies about his agenda. I want a candidate who reflects the passion and anger I feel. I don’t see that in any of the candidates except Ginrich at the moment. Santorum has it, I think, but I don’t think he has the ability to draw blood in the contest against Obama when the time comes, especially in debates. It amazes me how out of touch even the conservative pundits are - except for Levin. Everyone should read “Ameritopia” - it states the problem so clearly and perfectly.

I've never seen him right about anything.
******************************************

He is the best political strategist to watch, because he is 100% wrong every time. I don't think there is anyone that has that perfect of record.

You can take it to the bank that what ever he says, the opposite will happen.
In fact, I always make sure to watch and listen to him, because he is the person who's opinion I value the most.

What amazes me is that someone who is wrong as much as Dick Morris can make a living selling political predictions, analyses,, and consultations...

Dick Morris meet Karl Rove.

You could call it pent up frustration. On the other hand you could just say I am pissed off after seeing the compassionate conservatives turn the other cheek so many times and getting plowed all the time. (snip)

I’m tired of pretty boys and politically correct hacks. I want a President who will jerk the enemy up by the nose and beat the living hell out of them. (snip)

I want a President who will act boldly and continuously against the left with the same aggression the left has acted against the principles of our founding and the Constitution.

Well, that's putting it plainly.

I agree!

I think Newt "gets it." I think he knows exactly what people are looking for and understands exactly what he's tapping into.

I don't think that "playing nice" is in his game plan, not when it comes to dealing with the media and with President Obama.

I’m listening to cspan’s radio repeat of Meet the Press. It’s incredible how they’re so saturated with koolaid, they think Romney’s the destined candidate. They’re comfortable discussing his shortcomings, because none of those matter — he’s going to win. Newt can’t possibly win, his candidacy is unsustainable, it will not be allowed.

The problem for the MSM is that they demand that politics be played by their rules, and according to their plan.

That is the only way they can predict the outcome and direct the result to their liking.

American voters are sick of their rules and political script, they hunger for a candidate that will tell the media to stuff it up their pompous @ss.

Newt is that guy, and Mutt and Lil Rickie never can be.

Newt has SPOKEN the thoughts all Patriotic Americans have, which has been missing in the Republican Establishmnet for YEARS. In your face proclamations of "get a job", "biased media hype of a failed Presidency and failed ideas", taking on the race-baiters with FACTS of the "Plantation" mentality of the Left, and wealth redistribution, etc.

We absolutely must have more of this type of confrontation WITH FACTS to the multi-billion dollar socialist machinery, that owns the media, owns the corrupt offices now, and promotes itself 24/7 in the State-Run-Media by hyping the hopes of slugs and parasites, including Union members, who want to be lavished with handouts and cash taken from others who are responsible for themselves.

It's a hard road to hoe, but those who are 4th generation parasites, with no fathers in the home (which is rewarded by MORE handouts "for the children", and illegal invaders who live off the same style of handouts) are going to have to be shown the hard way that no one is entitled to ANYTHING but to be left alone to provide for themselves productively.

Great article.

I cannot wait, hopefully, to see Newt debate Obama. I can see it now. He will finally say what we all know

“Mr. President, you blame the republicans for everything while you had a democratic congress for two years. Even now only half of congress is controlled by republicans. And while you complain that they are stopping your progress, we all know that is exactly why the american people elected them in 2010: to stop your agenda.”

WOW! Great article. I follow this writer a great deal and he is spot on! The Republican establishment better wake up and take notice that WE THE PEOPLE do not want Mitt Romney!

We want a fighter that will not stand for the liberal bent of each question. If the establishment that is currently in the House and Senate right now were true Republicans, they would be cheering Mr. Newt with us. Why do they continue to call us stupid and uninformed? WE THE PEOPLE are probably the most informed electorate in your lifetime and if the establishment does not recognize that...they will be the reason Mr.O will be reelected.

It is time to reconsider the House and Senate leadership when Mr. Newt sweeps in control of both. Mr. Mitch needs to exit stage left. Conservative policies and a new leader in the Senate need to take his place. To hell with seniority...times are now critical.

Also the House needs new leadership if they do not realize that when Mr. Newt comes to Washington, they will need to lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. Mr. Newt will sweep in more and more Tea Party backed candidates. Ms. Sarah will probable be a part of Mr. Newt's administration...Energy Secretary with her number one priority being American Energy...”Drill Baby Drill” comes to mind.

Mr. Newt will join President Reagan and complete the total vindication of Conservatism. The next few months will show who is and who isn't part of the Republican establishment. I think we all know, but you will now see them come out of the walls against Mr. Newt. This should be fun!

For years I have told my local Republican establishment to give me candidates and positions that aren't democrate-lite. If I thought democratic positions were worth a tinker's damn I would vote for democrats.

I want candidates and policies that are totally different from democrats and the established media mavens. If you can not do this don't come to me for money or support.

Plainly is the only way I know to speak and act. Making small talk makes me uncomfortable with myself. I will be polite first and second but I will not be abused by anyone.

Playing nice is not acceptable when you are forced to play to win.

Those of us who work and live quietly have been attacked repeatedly and without provocation. It is time to respond to win and I prefer to give no quarter.

I don’t often listen to the pundits, and I’m not familiar with the book you mention, but...

AMEN!!! to the rest of your post! :)

There is an American Spirit, and Newt is tapped in. I only pray he can hang on and is ready for this role... He definitely seems to me to be! :) The people have been yearning for this for a while now - Obama and the left tapped in to that in 2008, but they were “using” those who were too desperate to know better that it was all shallow wordplay on Obama’s part for his whole “Hope and Change” campaign.

Newt doesn’t need any fancy slogans or to tell people what they are missing in their leaders - he exemplifies it in his actions and people respond to it because it’s REAL. He doesn’t make cliche promises, and I wouldn’t want that anyway. Reagan did the same thing and that’s why the response in 1980 was so powerful in that election (at least that’s what I’ve come to learn about it - I was too young to know why everyone loved the guy so much! LOL However, I do remember the feeling his election evoked - as a child I could see a change around me and on TV even if I didn’t understand why.)

"What they don't understand is what the roar means.

The roar is passion. The roar is intensity. The roar is pent up frustration. The roar, put another way, is the national mood of conservatives. It is a roar that will demand a fighter. It will demand that those who want our votes must not cower in the face of the liberal template. If fact, it is a roar that demands that we do not accept any liberal templates."

I think that roar is more. That roar should be hitting the reptilian brains of some of these politicians and professional consultants that there is a real anger roiling in the electorate, and that the "business as usual" hijinks is playing a very dangerous game.
I'm not fond of the next 10 years, because if things don't drastically alter course, a lot of the roads into the future do not look pleasant, in an 1860/1789 sort of way.

My excitement for a politician is equal to the medias bias and hatred toward them. They hate Newt and fear him now more then ever because he is the 1st president since Reagan that knows how insignificant he can make them. He can help us define the new media and finally bury the old gaurd that has protected the rise of socialism within both parties.
