David Stockman: American Exceptionalism Is 'Neo-Con Code' For Aggressive Foreign Policy
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/22/2012 6:08:56 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

There are few things the liberal media like more than a Republican renegade. David Stockman has made a career out of strutting his independence from the GOP. So little surprise that he was an honored guest on this morning's Up With Chris Hayes on MSNBC.

That Stockman repaid his hosts by attacking Republicans was utterly predictable. Even so, the absurdity of Stockman's particular assertion was breathtaking. The former Reagan budget director actually claimed that the notion of American exceptionalism, a focus of Newt Gingrich's campaign, is nothing less than . . . "neo-con code" for an aggressive foreign policy.

Even by the low standards to which we hold David Stockman, this is asinine. Ping to Today show list.

Everything is “code word” these days. Criticize any liberal idea and it’s “code word” for racism. Really?

Maybe we should mark everything the Dems say as code word for Marxism.

Kinda funny how David Stockman has risen in my mind lately.

Amid all the fighting about Bain Capital, I did some digging on the company that bought my last job out from under me. It was Collins and Aikman who in turn declared bankruptcy in 07 with David Stockman at the helm.

The Democrat’s foreign policy doesn’t have a code word; it just has a word: cowardice.

It's pretty obvious, to me, that our military is used by the globalist elites as muscle and whoever is in the Whitehouse marches to their orders. There is no way a Barack Obama would be as hawkish as he is, unless someone else was calling the shots.

My point, until we get a president who can stand up to these powers -- we will have aggressive foreign policy and our boys will go off and fight murky missions on our dime for interests not entirely our own.

Why is it that so many Reagan affiliates turn out to be liberals?

"The Democrat's foreign policy"

The is no democrat foreign policy just as there is no republican foreign policy.

Instead, there are competing foreign policy groups, schools, or doctrines in both parties.

In the republican party there are Realists, NeoCons, and Isolationists
In the democrat party there are Realists, Liberal Interventionists, and Anti-war pacifists.

Stockman is a Realist.

All republican presidents will have a foreign policy team composed of Realists and NeoCons and usually will have Realists serving as Sec of State and NSA while the SecDef job usually goes to a NeoCon

All democrat presidents will have a foreign policy team composed of Realists and Liberal Interventionists and will usually have Realists serving as SecDef and NSA while the Sec of State job usually goes to a Liberal Interventionist.

"Everything is “code word” these days"

And using the word "neocon" is a codeword for being anti-semitic.

Everybody loves throwing around codewords.

Sometimes it sounds like “David Stockman” is just a code word for “Stockholm Syndrome-addled dupe”...

American exceptionalism refers to the theory that the United States is qualitatively different from other countries. In this view, America’s exceptionalism stems from its emergence from a revolution, becoming “the first new nation,”[1] and developing a uniquely American ideology, based on liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, populism and laissez-faire.

This observation can be traced to Alexis de Tocqueville, the first writer to describe the United States as “exceptional” in 1831 and 1840.[2] Historian Gordon Wood has argued, “Our beliefs in liberty, equality, constitutionalism, and the well-being of ordinary people came out of the Revolutionary era. So too did our idea that we Americans are a special people with a special destiny to lead the world toward liberty and democracy.”[3]

Agree. This concept of “code words” lets someone put words in someone else’s mouth. Maybe “neo con” is a code word as well?

Hey, Haiti is exceptional too. So is Mongolia. There are all sorts of ways of being exceptional.

The exceptionalism I want in the USA is a country that abides by its Constitution, that exceptional charter created by an exceptional generation to establish principles of limited government grounded in virtue and liberty.

I’ve about had it with “code” and “dog whistles” and other mind-reading terminology that is only applied to Republicans.
