It is always here in the birthplace of the Civil War that things go bump in the night for presidential campaigns.
In 2000, John McCains surge for the GOP nomination was derailed by rumors he had a love child. Four years ago, Bill Clinton injected race into the Democratic nomination in an effort to derail Barack Obamas juggernaut campaign in South Carolina.
But all the shady twists and turns of the past were nothing compared with the Spanish moss-draped soap opera that has unfolded here in the past week.

What did Team Romney promise Drudge to get him to support their agenda? Access? Influence? I really don't get it.
Shame on you, Matt.
What did Team Romney promise Drudge to get him to support their agenda? Access? Influence? I really don't get it. Shame on you, Matt. My guess is they have dirt on him and they promised to keep their mouths shut if he played along...
What an arrogant, condescending azzhole charles hurt is. Reminds me of the snide comment by Peter Jennings when he stated that the american voter had thrown a temper tantrum when we rejected peterprinciple’s candidate for prez.
Matt is gay. Didn’t you know that?
okay so what is the best alternative to Drudge Report for quick news
Is Charles Hurt gay?
I don’t know.
My issue isn’t whether Newt is a Drama King or not.
My issue is that Drudge has cast his lot with the RINO Establishment and has hired two Romneybots (Joe Curl, Charles Hurt) to inject the same sort of media bias that Drudge once sought to expose.
Shame on Drudge for selling out his ideals and turning into the people he used to despise.
Don’t know about Drudge. The only time I’ve ever heard anything about Drudge is when Rush would credit him with some info.
You are just as arrogant and condescending as hurt and jennings if you buy his line of drivel. I’m not talking about the field of candidates, I’m talking about his sneering attitude about southern primary voters and the primary in South Carolina.
Uhm, Yawn and Blah, blah, blah....
Mindless drivel that never connected the dots to a summation that made sense.
The author is clearly left of something...
The last thing these GOP elitists want to do is unite the South against them and behind conservative American-American constitutional ideology that Newt is talking about. Debasing and hating whole regions of the country for loving American freedom is how they helped Reagan and conservatives to take over the party. Keep it up smart, superior ones!
The other thing I find fascinating is the conservatives rejecting the Gop amoral choir as they denounce Newt for his unholy record of divorce. They are all standing behind a candidate who used his power as Governor to mainstream sodomy and even permited the State to groom children with sodomy porn and mentalities in the public schools. Keep it up, oh holy ones!
The drama is the limo liberals in both parties melting down over Newt talking about “populist” American constitutional ideology and touching upon western business ethics. The “smart” ones who denounce morality as “hate” melting down over the sins of adultery and divorce, is the drama you are witnessing.
That is drama conservatives need. It is the drama we saw when Reagan ran and challenged the same elitists on their hatred of America and their love for European socialism and communism. Then they protected the Soviet Union with political correctness and now they are doing the same with Islamic jihad - the religion of peace.
I hope they melt down loud and clear because Newt does have the ability to talk to the around them and inspire new conservatives to power like Reagan did.
