A French theme park is being planned in honour of Napoleon Bonaparte, almost 200 years after his death.
Napoleonland, the brainchild of former French minister and history buff Yves Jégo, is being touted as a rival to Disneyland assuming, that is, it can gather the £180 million needed to leave the drawing board.
The plan is to build the unlikely amusement park on the site of the brilliant but doomed French leaders final victory against the Austrians in the Battle of Montereau in 1814 just south of Paris.
The 1815 Battle of Waterloo, in which the Duke of Wellington ended Napoleon's rule in France, could be recreated on a daily basis with visitors perhaps even able be able to take part in the reenactments.
They will also be able to take in a water show recreating the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar, in which Lord Nelson scored a decisive victory over a French and Spanish coalition aboard HMS Victory but died in the process.
But the park will also give pride of place to Napoleons greatest victories, in particular the Battle of Austerlitz in which the Russo-Austrian army was decisively defeated.

Yeah...the French replaced a King with an Emperor.
Humble guy, that Napoleon.

So now everyone can use the loo at the loo.
So will they have signs two foot high stating that you must be this tall for this ride?
Would be cool to see water slides that are miles long. ( Bill and Ted reference )

Napoleon Bonaparte is an extremely controversial figure in France. The greatest number of Napoleon Societies and collections of Napoleonic memorabilia are here in the US. He is one of the most represented historical figure in painting, sculpture, decorative arts, and magnificent wallpaper.

Bonaparte! One of the most fascinating figures in History. Maybe so, but I can't imagine children bugging their parents to take them there.

Napoleon is an extremely complex individual with a complex legacy. He is hardly in the category if a Hitler, as some here have suggested
One of Napoleon’s greatest contributions is the Napoleonic Code, the foundation if codified Civil Law in France, and much of Europe.
“ The Napoleonic Code or Code Napoléon (originally, the Code civil des français) is the French civil code, established under Napoléon I in 1804. The code forbade privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, and specified that government jobs go to the most qualified.
It was drafted rapidly by a commission of four eminent jurists and entered into force on March 21, 1804.
The Code, with its stress on clearly written and accessible law, was a major step in replacing the previous patchwork of feudal laws. Historian Robert Holtman regards it as one of the few documents that have influenced the whole world.”

I wouldn’t say Napolean was genocidal.

Rebellion is brewing!!
We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years. The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters. The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.
