America hates Newt Gingrich
Wash Examiner ^ | 1-20-12 | Conn Carroll

Unlike Mitt Romney, who occasionally beats President Obama in general election poll match ups, Newt Gingrich trails far behind President Obama in every survey. But just how bad are Gingrich's unfavorable among the general public compared to Obama and Romney?

Not every poll releases their full results, so here are the most recent favorability results I could find for Obama, Romney, and Newt.

Fox News, 1/12-1/14: Obama, fav/unfav, 51%/46%, +5 Romney, fav/unfav, 45%/38%, +7 Gingrich, fav/unfav, 27%/56%, -29

CBS/NYT, 1/12-1/17: Obama, fav/unfav, 38%/45%, -7 Romney, fav/unfav, 21%/35%, -14 Gingrich, fav/unfav, 17%/49%, -32

PPP, 1/13-1/17: Obama, app/dis, 47%/50%, -3 Romney, fav/unfav, 35%/53%, -18 Gingrich, fav/unfav, 26%/60%, -34

America does not love Romney, but boy do they hate Newt.

Not much difference between Willard and Leroy, except that Willard has actually won statewide office. Willard also didn’t pay a record ethics fine either. Come to think of it, Willard isn’t for amnesty either. Rest assured, I won’t be voting for either one of them. I’ll be voting for a conservative candidate instead. I remember a time where people here on FreeRepublic used to support conservatives. Today, they simply want to reminisce about how great things were during the Clinton years.

Ever wonder why obama has to clear out and entire amusement park to give a speech for the sake of security? It’s not because he’s loved...

Exactly right. Newt may not be ideal, or my first choice in candidates, but I will absolutely vote for him.

If I could wish up a candidate for this time in American history, it would be Ronald Reagan.

Give Newt a little money, and the TV exposure that comes with WINNING South Carolina, and he can drive those negatives up, that millions have been spent driving down.

He will lose at least 5% in the women's vote over 2008 McCain. That's a lot of votes to make up, as things now stand.

Uh oh, I’ve woken up the dead. The only candidate remaining with the lowest unfavorability ratings is Rick Santorum. Since no one else is willing to step forward, he’s it.

That is why the media will do everything they can to help him win the GOP nomination. Outside of Paul, Gingrich is the only other person in the race, including the others that dropped out, that might not beat Obambi.

Oh yeah, the interview with his wife, nothing more than a way to make conservatives mad at the media and feel sorry for Gingrich. After they help him win the nomination, next summer the real attacks on Gingrich will start. Forget the cheating on his wife - they are sitting on all the back room deals he engineered over the years, all the favors he did for lobbyist - by the time they are finished America will hate him even more than they do now.

You want to motivate the left to vote for Obambi, run the most hated republican(next to Bush) in the country against him. He will be portrayed as a grumpy old man, a career corrupt politician, a blowhard with a bad temper.

The most politically inept group of clowns in the last 50 years are about to once again turn a sure win into a real fight, probably a loss. Republicans are foaming at the mouth to see Gingrich go after the Fraud in three televised debates. They can hardly wait to see him attack Obambi, get all their rage out as they watch Gingrich go after him.

They are missing the entire issue. It isn’t about badgering him in a debate, it’s about defeating him, sending him into the dustbin of history where he belongs. The debates will be sanitized like they always are.If anything any attacks on Obambi will be spun as mean-spirited, paint Gingrich as a loose canon, a hothead.

I wish I could say, it won’t matter, we can form a third party after the GOP finally destroys itself, but it will be too late. Four more years of this socialist hack and America will be changed forever, the shift towards a European socialist model will be to embedded into America.

I pray the GOP come to their senses and select someone who will not make it close. I listen to them all calling into talk radio now, giddy over Gingrich, and wonder if they will come to there senses. They have such a history of making mistake after mistake, I see no reason they don’t make another.

“he said he would replace Obamacare with his own version of Obamacare,”

No, he did not say that.

“and he didn’t back away from his pro-amnesty position.”

It is up to the Congress to see that the executive enforces immigration laws as written by Congress, and Gingrich would not be able, nor would he try,to govern against the will of Congress. like Obama does. Look what happened to the amnesty initiative the Bush administration tried to ram through in 2008.

People seem to forget how hated Gingrich was when he was Speaker. Except they haven’t forgotten.

So, we should nominate somebody the left doesn't hate?

Is that what you're saying...???

“At some point, when the reality of the 16 trillion debt forces choices, I think Gingrich may have the historical perspective to sign and administer the budget and the downsizing of federal government that will be forced on the administratrion that happens to be in power when the next debt crisis occurs.”

When was the last time a progressive republican or ANY kind of progressive for that matter let this get in their way of expanding the federal government?

We need a CONSERVATIVE NOW. It will be too late if we are stuck with the top two front runners. I only see pain and suffering in the near future if we don’t elect someone who is willing to MAKE HARD CHOICES and do the right thing and DRASTICALLY reduce the size of the federal government. Otherwise we are in deep ****.

If you examine Noot's platform, he is actually running to the left of Mitt Romney. In the debate last night, he said he would replace Obamacare with his own version of Obamacare, and he didn't back away from his pro-amnesty position. Contrast that with Romney who said he was against amnesty and that healthcare should be a state issue, not a federal one.

I missed the debate last night. Your report is disturbing.

What's more disturbing is that Gingrich's statements apparently have raised no alarms. Replace Obamacare with his own plan? Good grief. He spent weeks trying to say he never supported the individual mandate, now that's exactly where this is going.

And on FR: crickets.

Sure, the election will be all about Newt or Romney or Santorum but not Obama and his record. Or then again, perhaps a dead cat could beat Obama if it campaigned hard enough.

So, who are you supporting while you’re slamming the rest of us? Where’s your winner that can beat Mitt?

Process of elimination = you’re for Santorum.

Why don’t you just admit it?

Yeah, I got the same response. I posted a video of Newt standing before an audience explaining the finer points of his Contract With America-21st Century. He is telling the audience that he thinks 300 pages of the Obamacare monstrosity bill is ‘pretty good’ and that he will incorporate those 300 pages into his own comprehensive ‘replace’ bill (i.e. GingrichCare). Keep in mind now that this was Newt in his own words giving a detailed description of his leadership platform for his Presidency. Needless to say, the gist of the numerous responses I received can be summed up in once sentence: “Stop telling lies about Newt”.

What the hey is going on here?

Where have you people been?

Why weren’t you on board when we had a good conservative in the race with no negatives? I’ll tell you where you were — busy trashing him.

Now, I don’t know who the heck you people are for but if Free Republic is any indication, Santorum is not popular.

He may be a good man but nobody can stand him.

We started out with a weak slate of candidates and Newt is the best of what’s left.

Vis a vis Obamacare, he said something of which the details are a bit obscure. And not just Newt, a number of “moderate conservative” GOP politicians have. There’s a sliver of something in it (I don’t know what — maybe it is some kind of efficiency optimization) that they want to keep. Even if that were so, I feel symbolically it would be better to repeal the whole damned thing in a fell swoop then go write something new that more than Democrats will have voted for in Congress. But I want to hear the details first.

Unfortunately, someone doesn’t have to make up lies about Gingrich.. there is a deep well of facts.

You don’t hear the media talking about this now, because Gingrich hasn’t won the nomination... but if he wins the nomination, expect a constant barrage of facts like... 1997 investigation that resulted in Gingrich being reprimanded by fellow lawmakers and charged with a $300,000 fine in chamber-reimbursement costs. All the details will be run on the MSM 24/7 and every other questionable things Gingrich has done during his Washington career.
