LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Two Georgia teenagers found a loaded gun in a grocery store restroom Tuesday afternoon and it turns out the gun belongs to a retired FBI agent.
The gun, a 40 caliber SIG loaded with 12 hollow point bullets, was lying on the right side of a sink in the men's restroom at a Publix store.
15 and 16-year-old brothers found the gun, and told their mother who alerted the store manager. He then called the sheriff's office.
60-year-old David Hallman heard a news report about the discovery of the gun and realized that he was missing his own pistol. He then remembered that he'd left it in the bathroom at Publix.
The retired FBI agent had placed the gun on the sink, washed his hands, and left -- leaving the gun behind.
He called the county sheriff and told him that the weapon was his.

Why is that necessary to report?
IAs opposed to what? Every LEO carries the same loads?
And what's up with JHP? Military can only use FMJ. Is there no law requiring LE to use FMJ as well?
/johnny
Actually, in my previous post I questioned WHY a fed would be carrying JHP instead of FMJ.
What's good enough for the military to send and our enemies to catch (FMJ) should be good enough for LE.

In some places (like NJ) only LEO’s can legally carry hollow points. They’re too dangerous for us civilians to use. /s
Dropped off some mohammeds at the pool at Publix. Some time later I realized my sidearm Kate was missing. I’m just glad she didn’t end up in the pool with the mohammeds.
Close quarters vs battlefield?
Poor guy. Thank goodness no one was hurt. The boys who found it, did the right thing.
While many people consider light weight an essential consideration in their choice of concealed (or for that matter, open) carry weapons, it’s been my experience that when I have something with a little heft to it, I keep aware that it’s there, and IMHO, would be more inclined to notice if it wasn’t...
Give it to Lee Paige.
I wonder if these teens had been educated by the NRA school program Eddie Eagle safety? Which says to children:
If you see a gun:
STOP!
Don’t Touch.
Leave the Area.
Tell an Adult.
Cause this is what they did. And nobody got hurt. Would love to know through the police if they had had this education, simple and direct safety. That, and ALL firearms are loaded— period.

Okay. I’ll bite. Why did he have to un holster the gun to wash his hands?
What I was asking about is why cops get to use JHP when the military is limited to FMJ?
/johnny
OK - you lost me on that one.
Those boys were obviously well trained.
He then remembered to carry it to the sink where he washed his hands like momma told him to.
Then, he... look a bicycle!
But only LE are professional enough to.... oops!
/johnny
In general, the military is limited to FMJ by the Geneva Convention, which outlaws expanding bullets, exploding bullets, wooden bullets, and I think plastic bullets. (Wood leaves lots of tiny splinters which end up as nasty infection sites, plastic and wood are both hard to see on x-rays.)
LE is not limited by the rules of war and can use whatever they want.
Some anti-gun states limit civilians to FMJ, but that is on a state-by-state basis. If you have that limit, move.
That’s what I’d like to know.
