Did you know that many of the talk radio hosts that you listen to on a regular basis use the same company to broadcast their shows? Clear Channel boasts names like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and even Coast to Coast AM!
Michael Savage is TRN, but is on a lot of Clear Channel stations.
Clear Channel is the largest owner of radio stations in the United State [...]
Did you know that Clear Channel is owned (in large part) by Bain Capital?
On Friday, November 17, 2006, Clear Channel announced that it was going private and selling off almost one-third of its radio assets... The buyers, led by Bain Capital Partners and Thomas H. Lee Partners, agreed to pay $26.7 billion for the company.
Bain Capital was founded by Mitt Romney. Mitt is retired now, but he still profits from Bain Capital according to the New York Times.
Clear Channel Communications is a privately owned company controlled by the private equity companies Bain Capital Partners LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners LP. Clear Channel was sold for $18.7 billion in cash plus the assumption of $8 billion in debt. The transaction closed on July 24, 2008. The operating company which technically owns Clear Channel is called CC Media Holdings, Inc.
Think about that the next time you're flipping channels on the radio and realize that Rush Limbaugh calls the candidates "Romney", "Non-Romney", and "Loony"...
Why do these other candidates get called "Non-Romney"?
Do you think you'll be hearing about this story in most of the media sources you frequent?
Then it's up to you to get the word out. (Especially since by sharing tips like this I help cement that I won't ever become one of those big names in talk radio)

You clearly don’t understand Rush’s position re: Newt’s ads. What a shame. Maybe you should actually listen rather than knee jerk responding to what you perceive as pro-Mitt.
Why is it "anti-capitalism" to question Romney's business record when he is running on that record. Is he not to be vetted?
Fellow FReepers, as tempting as it is and as gratifying as it would be to attribute Rush's recent contributions to STRENGTHENING ROMNEY at the expense of Newt and other conservatives on a willfully misconstrued premise (which Rush most assuredly did), C Ed is, I believe correct. There is some other reason, who knows what, that Rush has refrained from denouncing and rejecting Romney with the same TOTAL JUSTIFICATION that he has rejected Ron Paul.
My personal theory is that Rush has an inferiority complex when it comes to College Degreed Big Finance "gurus" like Romney. My theory, in short, is that Rush lacks the guts to state an obvious truth: Gingrich is infinitely better than Romney. Thomas Sowell said it, but Thomas Sowell is secure in his self-image. Methinks Rush's is fragile, where Sowell's is IRON.
In ANY CASE, if Rush was influenced by Bain's connection to Clear Channel and hence to a vast part of the infrastructure that distributes his show ...
... hey, he'd only be behaving like a capitalist! And we all should have learned by now that any attack on how a capitalist conducts himself without breaking the law -- perfectly legit capitalists who invest money and take risks in pursuit of honest profit, such as ticket scalpers and owners of abortion clinics -- is an attack on capitalism itself.
And we can't have that, even if it means Mitt Romney instead of Newt Gingrich as the GOP nominee and presumably, U.S. president.
Piss on Mitt Romney, and GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH!
Try a spelling course before you start to represent anyone else's opinions. You are either stupid or sloppy or both - not the sort to inspire a following, unless you are a leftist troll.
That's because they're undisciplined.
Not to hijack the thread — I know this isn’t about Handel except in the sense that KFI is a Clear Channel station — but you’re right about his being anti-Sarah, big time. I’ve had to turn him off when he gets on one of those rants. He also makes no bones about the fact that he’s Jewish and therefore, I guess, feels entitled to bash Christians. One of the reasons his ratings are so high is because he immediately precedes Rush — if he were back in his afternoon time slot (many years ago), I don’t think he’d do so well. And thanks for the tip about KOGO — I might be able to receive it here. One thing for sure, I’m getting sick of his right-bashing.
I don't think it's that. He's an atheist and hates all things religious.
Luckily Doug McIntyre just returned to his old morning time slot on KABC - YAY! - so I am a happy camper.
fascinating
First, if you listen to Rush regularly, you KNOW that Rush is critical of any number of Romney’s positions — and has been, CONSISTENTLY.
Second, Romney hasn’t been with Bain Capital for years, so even if Bain Capital DID own a part of Clear Channel, that Mitt would somehow be pulling Rush Limbaugh’s strings - not to mention all these other talk show hosts, is a ludicrous stretch.
Folks, despise Romney if you like. I don’t want him as the nominee either (though the Republican Establishment has made sure he’d be the one before a single vote was ever cast). But get real about Rush Limbaugh and so many of these other Talk Radio hosts, and even the Conservative Internet sites. They are all pretty much INDEPENDENT and call their own shots. Who pays Jim Rob for his support? Can he be bought? I THINK NOT. Nor do I think Rush and MOST of the others have a price that any of these politicians can afford.
Well he wasn't too happy about the tie in to Freddie and Fannie. Neither am I. Like I said, I wasn't going to vote for either of them. But that said, he has praised Newt's intelligence and his grasp of the issues, especially economic and foreign policy, gun control, and other conservative positions.
It was not the questioning, it was the way it was done, parroting the arguments of the "Occupy" crowed. That is, making money is bad because it's always done by screwing someone over and is just greedy.
But I wasn't' going to vote for Mitt or Newt anyway. But as in 2008, it looks like my choices will be eliminated way before the Texas primary. The choice by then was MaCain, or McCain, except the others were still on the ballot. So I voted for one of them.
Now that doesn't' mean I didn't vote for McCain in the general election, I did, and if it's Mitt or Newt verses Obama, I'll vote for Mitt or Newt in the general election.
Getting statism light is still better than statism heavy.
In a nutshell, you've said it. Rush Limbaugh's last contract was worth roughly $400,000,000.00. Four Hundred Million Dollars, or about 50 million a year.
I'm not a huge Rush Limbaugh fan, but he's big enough to not have to kiss Romney's pa-toot. The idea that he bows to the one-time Governor and eternal presidential candidate Romney is simply laughable.
Handel is a moron.
DING DING DING: we have a winner El Gato! In fact, I'd say the manner it was done obliterated any chance of debating what is potentially a reasonable point - that much of what happens on Wall Street is NOT free market stuff in the first place. But that horse is long gone now, buried under ominous music and dramatic black and white photos.
So you think that raking in millions and letting government pick up the tab is true capitalism.
Yet you don't have to support the Occupy movement to know that the playing field is pro-business, not pro-market. So it is disingenuous on Romney's part to decry welfare dependency as a poison to be fought when he has been more than happy to go before the government, role up his sleeve and have another form of poison injected into his arm and then come back for more. Romney is equally disingenuous to suggest that any criticism of his tenure at Bain Capital is an attack on free enterprise itself especially when he never practiced free enterprise in the first place. Mitt Romney is what I would call a corporate welfare bum.
Romney hedging his financial bets?
Rush is rich enough he could cut ties with those folks tomorrow and find another home.
You guys are like Rush -- you're making a bad thing TEN TIMES WORSE.
Watch the CSPAN video of Newt and Santorum addressing the group in South Carolina. And wake up to the fact that at this point in the game, Gingrich is our best bet for a number of reasons, and that it is downright FOOLISH to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Conflict-of-interest PING!
You really don’t comprehend very well. I am a big Newt supporter. Does not mean I agree with the strategy. Nor can I do anything about Rush’s reaction. It is what it is.
