Romney compares Bain's operation to Obama's bailout of auto industry

SUMTER, S.C -- SUMTER, S.C.- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said his record at Bain Capital which included buying and later closing down a photo album plant in Gaffney is the same as President Barack Obama's record in bailing out the auto industry.

"What the president has done overseeing GM and Chrysler has been reminiscent of what people in the private equity industry do. To try and save the business, you have to cut back to a core that matches the revenue of the business," Romney said Saturday in an interview with The State's editorial board. "And so, the president has shuttered factories, closed down dealerships and thousands and thousands of people lost their jobs.

"If he attacks me (for Bain Capital), I'll point out that's what he did," Romney said. "He'll say he did that to save the country That's the same reason we cut back as well, was to save the company."

This is how he's going to handle this issue? Are you kidding me?

First, Mitt, Obama's auto company bailout had nothing to do with saving those companies. It was about stealing those company from the investors/bond holders and giving them to the unions. It was designed to allow those companies to avoid going through normal bankruptcy proceedings, which would have resulted in nullifying current union contracts.

So Mitt, your strategy is to use the "Well Obama did it too" defense, which in effect will inoculate Obama on this issue. Obama will now get a pass on this, just as he will on Obamacare, thanks to Mitt's Romneycare.

Why are we going to nominate this guy again? Why do people think this guy can beat Obama?

“”What the president has done overseeing GM and Chrysler has been reminiscent of what people in the private equity industry do.”

This idiot doesn’t understand capitalism any better than the current idiot.

Why not take a shovel full of s—t and place it on your own head Romney, if this is the best you can do.

Personally, I think this explanation of his is more damning than all the mud folks have been tossing at him.

Bain = corporate investment fund dollars

Government = government tax dollars

Hmmm, Mittens doesn’t know the difference.

I've said it before... If not Newt, it will be Mitt.

Hoping for either of the Rick's is just that - hoping. Wish all you want, it just isn't going to happen.

Newt's the last chance to stop Romney. That's reality.

Newt's not perfect by any stretch (none of them are), but it does comport with the rule "Vote for the most conservative candidate that can get elected."

Like Father Like Son.

It runs in the family. Flip flopping. I’m just waiting for Mittens to claim HE WAS BRAINWASHED.

Gee and I just hear Charles Krauthammer and Hannity talk about how Romney needs to say this about Bain on his show last night

So, you don’t think Romney knew he was ripping off the investors, creditors, and taxpayers to benefit himself when he took control and bankrupted those companies?

Perhaps Romney knows better than you in what ways “what the president has done overseeing GM and Chrysler has been reminiscent of what people in the private equity industry do.”

Obama came out of nowhere to save GM.

It was like a Volt out of the blue.

I’m curious. Don’t most people invest in companies they think will be successful? And if they’re not, they divest themselves. Right? When people invest in their 401K, do they instruct the investment company to make sure no one loses their job? I mean. do people actually say, “Hey, I want to make a good return on my investment. But whatever you do, don’t put any money in a company that trims its payroll or cuts waste or does anything that causes good, hard working people to lose their jobs”?

Romney wasn’t “ripping off” anybody!
He took struggling enterprises and restructured them so they could survive.

To the extent folks lost money, they would have lost as much or more, if Bane hadn’t come along.

Who lost how much money in Staples? Dominoes? etc...

Does anyone know if Carey Coulter is related to Ann Coulter?

He was at the 66 pro-draft rally at Stanford with Romney. In fact He organized it.

Anyone?

Would explain coulters brainwashing.

The people following him are not thinking clearly, in hoping to win and boy, are they in for a shocker! Wait until Obama unloads on Mitt— kinda the way the DNC unloaded on Miit in Mass race-didn’t Kennedy hit Mitt about corporate wrong doings (Bain) and Mitt was crushed-Oh, yeah, bring it on again and we'll win with that (not) Once Obama and Mitt are side by side, you will not see that much difference of the thinking and many voters will be depressed in not voting.

Right! Newt’s the only one who’ll look BHO squarely in the eye and not back down. He’s not afflicted with the disease to please, the need to be politically correct and will not be cowed by the race card. The others would fold like a cheap suit, and RuPaul agrees with BHO too much to attempt debating him.

Newt’s our best shot at beating BHO by far.

Hannity does his best to be fair. If you watch him consistently, you’ll see how much he likes Newt. He’s not in the bag for Mittens as his FNC colleagues are. I’ve really been watching/listening closely and comparing.
