(CNN) -- A federal judge disclosed Friday that former presidential candidate John Edwards has a life-threatening heart condition, a court source confirmed to CNN. Edwards had sought a delay in his criminal corruption trial, scheduled to begin this month. Attorneys and the federal judge met in a North Carolina courtroom Friday afternoon for a status hearing regarding the pending trial of Edwards, a former U.S. senator. Edwards appeared at Friday's hearing. His lawyers had made the motion for a delay under seal, but some of its details were publicly revealed by the judge in the open hearing.

Edwards has a long had a heart condition. This medical condition involving the function of his heart is evidently new.

Maybe he’s trying to delay the trial long enough so he has time to convince Obama to give him a pardon? Edwards is a rich man and I’m sure Obama will be elated to accept a contribution to the “Obama Presidential Library Fund” from Edwards.
Too bad Edwards wasn’t standing trial in Mississippi, I’m sure Haley Barbour would have obliged.
Prayers (yes, prayers) for Mr. Edwards that his operation is successful and his health restored so that he can go through this trial and be judged here on Earth, and not just in Heaven (and also that he might - for the good of his soul - see the error of his ways before it’s too late).
