Mitt Romney leads the South Carolina Republican presidential primary with 29%. Newt Gingrich is in second place with 25% and Ron Paul is in third place with 20%.
Paul has gained the most and Rick Santorum has lost the most since the last American Research Group survey on January 4-5. In that survey, Paul was at 9% and Santorum was at 24%.
Gingrich and Romney are tied among self-identified Republicans with 29% each, followed by Paul with 18%. Paul leads among independents and Democrats with 29%, followed by Romney with 27%, Gingrich with 12%, and Rick Perry with 11%.
Gingrich leads among those likely primary voters saying they are supporters of the Tea Party with 28%, followed by Romney with 24%, Paul with 20%, and Santorum with 11%. Romney leads with 33% among those saying they are not supporters of the Tea Party or are undecided about the Tea Party, followed by Gingrich with 23%, and Paul with 21%.
Gingrich leads among evangelical Christians with 40%, followed by Perry with 15%, Romney with 13%, Santorum with 12%, and Paul with 10%. Among likely voters saying they are not evangelical Christians, Romney leads with 48% and followed by Paul with 33%.
Gingrich leads among men with 29%, followed by Paul with 23%, Romney at 18%, and Santorum with 14%. Among women, Romney leads with 38%, followed Gingrich with 22%, and Paul with 18%.

It’s very peculiar to see Santorum go from 24% to 7% in one week. Does anyone know of anything that happened during the past week to explain such a drop? Maybe Ron Paul hypnotized part of the voters of SC.

It might have something to do with the fact that the nation is on the brink of financial ruin and only Ron Paul is talking about that.
I have a feeling if Romney gets ultimate power the LDS church will be much more in the spotlight, will become a very powerful political controller and will work itself into being introduced on many levels of the lifestyle all across America.
But it could be worse, Romney could have been a Jehovahs Witness.

Yes, there was anoother debate, where he opened his mouth and spoke. People as a whole don’t like Santorum, nor his message. He also was stupid enough to say this (I don’t know exactly when, it was on a radio), and it has been spread far and wide in the last week:
“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.
They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down, keep our regulations low, and that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world.”

It’s a different state. Santorum is from Pennsylvania and is probably not trusted by South Carolinians (though I can’t fathom why they’d trust Romney other than they’re listening to the whispers that only Romney can win.)
Gingrch, Paul, and Perry hail from the South and will be preferable. Santorum has demoonstrated himself with his votes that he can slide into liberalism. For all the talk about Newt’s flip flops, his actual votes speak volumes about his conservatism. Paul’s conservatism isn’t questioned at all. And Perry, other than on immigration, is solidly conservative. Given this, I think that’s why Santorum dropped.
Paul going from 4th place to 3rd is worthy of a headline?

Now THAT is quite amazing.... and I love it.
Santorum needs to drop out for the good of the country.
This pollster is pretty bad, as pollsters go.
But Santorum's numbers HAVE fallen, as he's been out of the focus lately given Newt & Perry going after Romney for making money.
Economic conservatives will likely decide those two are crazy, but they are more likely to end up with Romney right now. So Santorum has two opportunities: compete with Mitt for those who believe in free markets, and compete with Perry & Newt for those who emphasize social issues.

Ron Paul would destroy Obama. He would peel off 10-15 of the demos, get the indes, and the repubs would have to support im over thugbama.
If its romney or RP, I am for RP all the way.
The three polls taken Wednesday-Thursday do not agree on his level of support - shown by highest quality pollster first:
Rasmussen: 16%
Insider Advantage: 14%
ARG: 7%
For me, the last one is clearly an outlier.
Obama has more principles than Romney. Obama is dedicated Marxist. Romney has no core beliefs other than doing what is best for himself.
Gingrich has been riding that gravy train for the past 15 years, feeding at the trough with all the other hogs.
I find it very hard to believe that the leopard has changed his spots.
I guess Santorum has lost significant support, but this poll showing a drop to 7% has to be the least accurate.
Paul might beat Romney in SC. He takes from Willard, not Newt.
I think he has changed his spots. All you have to do is watch some of the Freedom speeches he did a few years back, and it is CLEAR to any reasonable person he loves this country.
Spew your hate and disgust for Newt. I will spend my energy trying to get the only person capable of change elected. What kind of future my kids have is important to me. Go Newt.

My point is that we've spent all year with conservatives thrilled over quite a few different not-Romney choices, but then backing off as they are vetted. I just pray that one of the few remaining options can derail Romney and then defeat Obama. At best, this will be the most significant presidential election since 1860. At worst . . .
