STAR, N.C. -- Montgomery County sheriff's deputies are on the scene of what appears to be a workplace shooting at McBride Lumber Company just north of Star.

Sheriff Dempsey Owens told WXII 12 that 4 people were shot inside the company Friday morning, 3 people died, 1 worker was airlifted to the hospital, and the gunman was transported to the hospital after shooting himself at his home.

Deputies responded to McBride Lumber Company just after 6 a.m.

Owens said witnesses reported that the gunman was a disgruntled employee at McBride Lumber Company entered the warehouse and starting shooting workers.

Deputies later found the suspect inside his home. Owens said the suspect shot himself and was airlifted to the hospital.

WXII 12 has a crew headed to the scene.

How many of you want to bet that the company had a "no weapons" policy? Our work has a corporate "no guns" policy, but half the firm has their concealed handgun permits and carry them, knowing that they may save their own life as the cops respond, but will be fired accordingly.

Robbins is a pretty conservative area.

Notable for 2 things...

Having John Edwards claim Robbins as his birthplace....

And having Robbins pretend that they'd never heard of John Edwards.

:-) I used to travel weekly through there. During the '04 campaign, there wasn't a single Kerry/Edwards sign to be seen, anywhere.

I’m surprised there haven’t been many more of these office shootings in this economy. Could be that with so many government perks like unemployment, food stamps, etc. people might not be to that point... yet.
