Not enough for me.
They have to go up the chain of command, grab every little chickenshit brass who approved this nonsense—ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP—and bust ‘em back to the ‘back sink’.
After they are busted back to no stripe grunt they are assigned to a MEU with orders to be the lead man on every hostile beach that MEU is sent into. But, if that MEU is unlucky and comes home without a combat assault these REMFs are reassigned until they do accomplish a combat assault.
My bottom line since Vietnam has been: If you want to write the ROEs you WILL serve a six month tour of duty always walking point. If a REMF wants to have control over a grunt’s life, and that is what ROEs do, they will by Heaven pay for that right by risking their lives just as they are ordering the poor line grunt to do.
Sorry for the rant but entirely too many friends live on THE WALL for me to be any other way.
Enough said!
I doubt this was a planned event.
It was just one of those things that happens in combat.
It really isn't that big of a deal. We need to stand with these young men who are offering their life every day for us.
