Gingrich Decries 'Backdoor Socialism'
Fox ^ | 1-12-12 | LYN

Posted on 01/12/2012 4:31:45 PM PST by VinL

Gingrich returned to the stump Thursday with a heavy dose of populism and defended himself against charges of being anti-capitalist and anti-free enterprise.

"I think when you have crony capitalism of politicians taking care of their friends, that's not free enterprise, that's just backdoor socialism in which the rich get all the money and the rest of us get left, get left with all the debt," Gingrich told an audience of senior citizens gathered at the state fair grounds for a convention.

Gingrich said he's been "amazed" by the intensity of critics who he said are attacking him for questioning the bailout of big banks. He suggested the bailouts were tied to corruption at the Federal Reserve and the Treasury.

"American people have a right to know what has been happening to their economy, and they have a right to know where all the money went, they deserve an audit on the Federal Reserve, and the Treasury, to find out where the money went, to find out who got the money and why they got the money," said Gingrich to wide applause.

But it's not Mr. Gingrich's questions about bank bailouts that are raising eyebrows among prominent conservative voices, it's his questions about Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital. And while Gingrich would later tell reporters he was referring specifically to the bailouts of AIG and Goldman Sachs when he criticized "back door socialism," the candidate made a point to tell seniors that it wasn't just financial institutions that need to be more transparent but also presidential candidates as well.

Nice try, but Newt had no dealings with Fannie Mae. Get your facts straight.

I'm saying, no one in congress has had any interest in auditing Fannie Mae. The inner circle collected multi-million dollar bonuses, and no one in government has had anything to say about it. No one went to jail. No one has even had to answer any questions about it.

The same kind of thing has happened over at the Fed, where in addition to the trillions we know about, several more trillions we weren't told about flowed out of their coffers shoring up... who, I'm not sure.

So I'm glad Newt is raising these issues. By all means, we should be auditing the Fed, Fannie Mae, the stimulus and bail-out funds, the whole lot.

Until now its been mostly Paul who has raised the issue. I'm glad Newt has decided to address the issue.

I’ve been concerned about Romney. I won’t vote for him, period. I’ve now added Gingrich and Perry to that list.

WELL said. Even today Romney’s lead grows. Media is circling the wagons around him. We’ve GOT to foil them (AND the Left) by supporting Newt before it’s too late. He still has a chance - Perry & Santorum don’t.

I was taking issue with the choice of words, I said: "... OWS talking point words".

Bain Capital and Mittt Romney are crony capitalist. That’s not leftist talking points, that’s the truth.

True (I didn't mention Bain), and again my point, "crony capitalist" is not capitalist at all, it is Fascist. Saying the word "capitalist" in that sentence conveys a negative regarding capitalism. That's why I make an effort to use the accurate "Fascist", no negative association with capitalism, it hits on socialism.

I think u under estimate the American people. They know fairness and honesty when they see it. They know corrupt, crony capitalism when they see it, they know what it is.

I wish you were right, and if you are, please explain to me how Zer0 got elected.

Look at the last stimulus package. Who was at the gov. trough slurping up money as fast as their gov. buddies would put it in there. IT WAS THE CAPTIALIST. They, the capitalist, and the gov. stole trillions from the American taxpayers and sent them the bill.

And there you go, you just stepped in it yourself, bigtime.

I'll fix it for you:

Look at the last stimulus package. Who was at the gov. trough slurping up money as fast as their gov. buddies would put it in there. IT WAS THE FASCIST. They, the Fascist, and the gov. stole trillions from the American taxpayers and sent them the bill.

Now do you get it?

Funny S Palin is the one who initially raised the issue of crony capitalism.

Yes, Sarah was among the first to direct attention to "crony capitalism", and though I love Sarah, I would like to see her equate "crony capitalism" with Fascism every time she uses the phrase.

The difference of course is the role of the government in guaranteeing profits for the company and using taxpayer $$$ to cover losses.

True, (and that meets the criteria for Fascism) keeping in mind that "company" in this context is government selected favorite insiders.

I can not find the Newt interview on their website. Guess I just don’t know what to look for or under. Thanks, but if you can help, I would appreciate it.

Which is why Obama and Romney are two sides of the same coin and the establishment, Ivy League, Wall Street, big-money, big-media elites are perfectly comfortable with either one of them as President. What they fear most is a revolt by anyone who came from the middle class and still identifies with the middle class, a la Palin, Cain, Newt and most of the Tea Party.

“I wish you were right, and if you are, please explain to me how Zer0 got elected.”

Because of the ignorance of GW Bush.

“Look at the last stimulus package. Who was at the gov. trough slurping up money as fast as their gov. buddies would put it in there. IT WAS THE FASCIST. They, the Fascist, and the gov. stole trillions from the American taxpayers and sent them the bill.”

I have NO problem with the term FASCIST. I’ll bite.
