December U.S. Budget Deficit Wider Than Expected

The monthly U.S. budget deficit climbed to $85.97 billion during December from $78.13 billion in the same month a year earlier, partly because some payments normally made in January were shifted to December, the Treasury Department said on Thursday.

Outlays rose to $325.93 billion from $315.01 billion in December 2010. Among the payment shifts to December was about $4 billion in military retirement pay that was sent early because Jan. 1 fell on a Sunday.

Government receipts, mainly from taxes, rose modestly to $239.96 billion in December 2011 from $236.88 billion in December 2010.

Under the government's accounting system, last October was the opening month of fiscal 2012. During fiscal 2011 which ended Sept 30, the budget deficit totaled $1.296 trillion.

Yep, spending just keeps increasing and the revenue remains essentially the same.

If we don’t seriously cut this wasteful spending - and soon, we are going to see a financial disaster on our shores. Real poverty. No pensions and hyperinflation which will wipe everyone’s retirement savings.

Sometimes I think that is why homeland security thinks returning vets from Iraq and Afghanistan are a threat as well as conservatives. I’ve always worried that the definition of ‘terrorist’ will expand to freedom loving Americans.

I really don’t know which candidate has the courage to actually stop the spending, not just lie to us and say they will.

Sometime I really wonder if the insiders in the beltway including the RNC is in on the whole collapse mess, ready to trick us into the global consolidation plan acting like it is somehow patriotic! Romney would certainly be the perfect shining Judas to push something like this forward. If Zero did it we might fight back.

If we are broke enough they count on us to crumble and demand safety and security - and then we’ll get a tyrannical Federal government on steroids. It’ll make the TSA gropers look like schoolgirls.

All very troubling. We’ll be like Rome - destroyed from within while the legions are away.
