The carrier, along with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, reaches the region as tensions are rising with Iran.
Deployed San Diego-based ships in the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and Makin Island groups are now in the Middle East, the U.S. Fifth Fleet and Central Command has announced.
The sailors, Marines and airmen aboard the ships arrive after Iranian officials recent threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for the world's oil supply, and warned a departing U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, not to return to the Persian Gulf.

That's what I thought: this is standard procedure. Surely, even the Ubama administration wouldn't be dumb enough to get "military" with Iran? If we don't, the Iranians will back down anyway. If we get crazy, they'll get crazy, so let's not do it.
You airdale types make me laugh...;-)
I believe the next time Iran wants to get froggy with us in the Gulf...
There will be lots of business in the salvage and scrap metal industry for everyone interested...
Won’t be anything with USN on it either...
We all need to relax and listen to your hearts...We will deal with these creetin’s soon enough...
Just be glad to ROE’s that give commanders on the scene initial measures to protect their commands and crews when the Iranians do get stupid again...
It’ll be up to Mr. Teleprompter to decidde what kind of follow-thru will be forthcoming, if that...
I have a high degree of confidence in our forces in theater, and we will wake up to interesting headlines the next morning...
The best Carriers I ever operated with were the Coral Sea and the Midway...Never had a lick of problems with them from what I recall, and it was a joy to watch their backs as they gave us control over the skies above us skimmers...
Relax folks...They’ve got this!!!
Got family on the Vinson.
CVW-17 had an outchop party/dinner at the Rota OClub in 1980. A food fight ensued. Things got out of hand and we trashed the place. IIRC, we were each fined $200. As of 1990, CVW-17 was still banned from any event there. Some people just can't let go.
In the late 1960s and 1970s the US Navy CHEAPED on PROPER Aircraft Carrier Stabilization. CVN-70 was a Carter Boat and there was ALOT of OLD Parts incorporated w/in her.

“Got family on the Vinson.”
Son is on the New Orleans, friend’s son is on the Vinson.
I feel slighted ;) I’m no brown shoe- I’m a surface puke. Someone has to drive the ship to land on ;). But your right I’m not worried about the initial response - its the 48hrs after that I’m concerned with.
Pssst! Canada is another country...
I agree with you about that...48 hours is a critical time...
And if he plays this like he did with Osama bin Laden, we are going to risk lives with that kind of delay...
Yes. The Lincoln is going to be running backup.
Won’t be long now!! Hang in there!
oops! Sorry, Lynne. I was still thinking the Stennis.
