(CBS News)
Michelle Obama said depictions of friction in a new book, "The Obamas," between her and former top aides to her husband, President Obama, aren't true.
In a wide-ranging interview with "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King, the first lady also said that some have tried to portray her as an "angry black woman" since Mr. Obama first announced he was seeking the presidency.
" ... I guess it's more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman and-- you know? But that's been an image that people have tried to paint of me since the day Barack announced, that I'm some angry black woman."
"The Obamas," written by New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor, reports that there was tension with former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanual and with former presidential Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
But Mrs. Obama told King that simply wasn't so.
"Rahm is -- and Amy, his wife, are some of our dearest friends," Mrs. Obama says. "Rahm and I have never had a cross word. He's a funny guy."

I think this thought is a bit ingenuous. White people are constantly exposed to derisive commercials, affirmative action hires, derogatory characters in movies and television that portray the white male (and occasional female) as bumbling, clueless, doughy lumps of ignorant humanity. Conversely, white people get to view in the information and entertainment media an unending stream of wise, athletic, rational and fashion-sensible black folk who tolerate the insensitive, foolish white folk as if they were mentally challenged children.
As a result, I am constantly aware that my whiteness is a hindrance in almost any social or economic setting that involves people of color.
Well said, isnc.
The only phrase I worry about is “Obama will never be re-elected”. If a RINO is our only choice to oppose him, I just don’t share your faith at this time. I hope I am wrong.
ping!
Perhaps because you ARE????
One thing I would love to know (off topic). Why ON EARTH does she stand with her legs spread???
Gee, what a happy couple!

Yeah, I think it is both dated and a bit of an exaggeration. That said, I think the general concept is, well, generally accurate. But times really have made pretty much EVERYONE more aware of what race they are.
think it will favor both teacher and parent.
If a kid accuses a teacher of say rape then it is on video.
If a parent wants ot see how their kid is acting or is accused of acting up it is on video.
If a parent is wondering what that teacher is teaching or saying then the parent will know.
Obviously we will have a couple who does not like it but to me and most infact all I have talked to except a couple of liberal teachers are in favor.
***no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really dont belong.***
Well, Moochelle, it’s not as if you actually studied hard, made exceptional grades and got in like all the rest of the students. No, you didn’t belong because the only reason you got in was Affirmative Action. Maybe if you, too, had studied hard, people would have respected you for your diligence and tenacity. But, no, you had to whine. No wonder they thought you “didn’t belong.”
I’d like to know what her husband got in his grades and read his papers too.
her past paper was for the black panthers and black supremacy but funny how that is all covered up by this trash we have to call the press/media.

Bullseye. Thanks.

The Fourth Estate is the Fifth Column.
Man, you are so twentieth century.
Ms. King is going to fail which is par for most of her lack-luster career.
She would be a 4th rate weather forecaster somewhere unknown if it weren't for the coat-tails of Oprah.
Her career + this interview =
