Secular Progressives Mock QB Tim Tebow - And Us
Investor's Business Daily ^ | January 10, 2012 | IBD Staff

Leadership: Even before George Washington is said to have taken a knee in prayer at Valley Forge, men and women of faith and courage endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights have guided this nation to greatness.

Some 45 million people watched Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow complete that 80-yard touchdown pass play to Demaryius Thomas on the first play from scrimmage in overtime to lead his team over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday's wild card playoff game.

They also saw him take a knee and give thanks to the God he believes in, an act that's been dubbed "Tebow-ing."

The act has been mocked by comedians and pundits and derided by the secularists among us, those who've banned prayer from the public schools, and fought Christmas displays on public property, the words "One Nation Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and even the words "In God We Trust" on our coins.

The fact that Tebow had 316 yards passing and averaged 31.6 yards per pass in the game didn't escape notice. Tebow wore "John 3:16" on his eye black in the 2009 BCS Championship game, a Bible passage often seen on signs held at sporting events at every level.

On the postgame show, CBS analysts "Tebow-ed" in unison, mocking the seriousness of Tebow's intent. "Saturday Night Live" has done a skit in which Jesus appears in the Bronco locker room. God does not take sides in football games, Tebow's critics say.

Tebow would agree with that, but he also acknowledges a higher power's influence on his life, win or lose, just as the Founding Fathers did when they acknowledged in the Declaration of Independence that we were "endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights," rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of, not from, religion.

The militant secularists are judgmental and intolerant beyond belief. They're guilty of the very self-richeousness they accuse Christians of and their endless carping has turned the American public against them.

I’ver never met anyone who was intolerant and mean spirited that wasn’t a liberal.

Thanks for posting this article.
The anti-Christians have given a lot of exposure to Tebow’s humble Christianity.

And I will say that some of the most religious people I have know are not only the most loving-—they are by far the happiest—and most joyful. Not a hateful bone in their body—just full of joy and thankfulness.

God does not take sides in football games, Tebow's critics say.

Maybe not, but in life He takes the side of His flock, and the smirkers have just put themselves on the opposite side. Go Tebow!

I'm no fan of Denver, but if the Niners can't win it, I hope Tebow pulls out a Super Bowl win on a Hail Mary and this football brouhaha smacks the secularists upside the head in 2012.

If these Tebow haters weren’t so blind and stupid, they would know that after EVERY NFL GAME, a certain percentage of players from both teams meet at midfield or the end zone and join hands in prayer to thank God. The networks don’t show it, of course.

Tebow, unlike many un-believers realize that he is only an instrument in the hands of the almighty.

I’m not particularly a Denver fan....but I’ve become a huge fan of this young man, Tebow. As an evangelical Christian, I respect his devotion to his faith and his unwavering courage under withering fire from critics from all sides. He responds with a kindness and compassion I cannot understand....since, despite my Christian faith (I’m very much a work in progress), I’d tell ‘em all to kiss my a**.

He doesn’t. He just smiles, says nice things about them, continues to kick butt on the field, and gives ALL praise and credit to the Father and His Son. I love that. So does, it seems....America.

Denver winning the Super Bowl....that is what I’d now love to see more than anything.

Indeed. The last time I saw one shown was when Mr. Tebow joined in. This has been going on for years.

I think it’s a search for fail of Tebow. Just because he’s new to the NFL.

Kurt Warner was similar in his profession of faith, but I think because he was such a proven winner, older, etc., he was not as suspect to “ridicule”.

Forgive them Father, they know not what they do...

I think it unlikely in the extreme that God cares about whether the Broncos win or lose. I am certain though that God deeply loves and cares for the players and spectators, which is what Tim Tebow acknowledges by kneeling in humble thanks for his accomplishments.
