Fort Mill, S.C. -- Rick Perry, the lone Republican campaigning for president Tuesday in South Carolina, likened Mitt Romney to a greedy Wall Street vulture who was indifferent to the plight of workers who lost their jobs in deals that enriched his investment firm.
Seeking an early edge in South Carolinas Jan. 21 primary .. the Texas governor also ridiculed Rick Santorums congressional spending record.
Perry started slashing away at Romneys record as chief executive at Bain Capital on Monday, but was more caustic Tuesday ..
"Theyre vultures that are sitting out there on the tree limb, waiting for the company to get sick, and then they sweep in, they eat the carcass, they leave with that, and they leave the skeleton, Perry told about 100 seniors here at the Sun City retirement complex.
Perry took the analogy further in comments afterward to reporters.
We have allowed these greedy people on Wall Street to take advantage of small firms going through tough times, he said, alluding to the money that Bain collected in deals that put 150 people out of work .. in Gaffney, S.C., and cost steelworker jobs at a plant in Georgetown, S.C.
Instead of trying to work with them to find a way to keep the jobs and to get them back on their feet, its all about how much money can we make, how quick can we make it, and then get out of town and find the next carcass to feed upon.
Perry went on to castigate the Obama administration for allegedly failing to stop self-dealing on Wall Street.
Youve got to ask yourself, when the last three chiefs of staff for this president came out of Wall Street, you dont think theres a little bit of inside dealing going on there? Perry asked reporters.

Disgusting Marxist bunk.
Steel industry suffered big in those days and the Pensions Benefity Guaranty Corporation had to bail out a TON of pension funds. No malice here.
Go after Romney for his record. Not his venture capital experience. That is how venture capital works and is supposed to work. If you don’t like it, move to China. The government dictates everything there, which you seem to like.
I am starting to get disgusted by the lefty populists on FR.
Cherry-picking sob stories is a specialty of the left.
The other night on a Frank Luntz special, one participant slammed Bain for “shutting down companies and sending all the jobs overseas” [rough quote from aging memory]. No sooner did she finish than someone else piped up and said Bain saved her job.
I agree with your advice: focus on Romney’s record as governor.
It is incongruent that a person running to fire Washington bureaucrats complains about someone who has had to lay people off at failing businesses.
The Republician party has become once again the STUPID party. They are destroying any chance to beat Obama by all the stupid badmouthing. Perry is a nut. I liked the guy until this. Grigy is just as bad. Santorium should he is about those two by not sprewing stupidity. I think Free Republic will go down in flames if Romney is nominated. He is not my first choice. But, I will vote for whomever wins the REPUB nomination over Obama any day. This election is the worst stupidity by some of our Repubs I have ever seen. The MSM are loving their stupidity. This should be a slam dunk win for us but they are throwing it away.
Great point. Its pandering to the undereducated blue collar guy who buys into the assinine populist message pissed out there by the Obamaites. Shame on Gingrich and Perry for patronizing it. May their prospects suffer accordingly.
