Many conservatives are absolutely perplexed by the question of what motivates liberals to take the patently wrong political positions they do. It’s difficult to explain it without believing such obviously wrong ideas like “liberals are just stupid”, or “they want to destroy our country”, but sometimes we resort to those explanations out of pure frustration.
But what is the explanation? Why do seemingly good, intelligent people take positions that cause so much harm in the face of all the facts? I’ve finally stumbled upon the answer, and it’s so stunningly simple, yet profound in its implications, that it’s absolutely mind-boggling. Liberalism isn’t a political ideology; it’s a psychology - the psychology of self-satisfaction to be precise.
A liberal (or a leftist; I use the terms interchangeably), is a person who only cares about politics to the extent that doing so makes him or her feel good, or avoid feeling bad, due both to external and internal factors. Their motivations can include things like a desire to feel intelligent, moral, noble, or unique, as well as a desire for peer acceptance or reverence, and aversion to being ostracized, among many other things.
Now, before I go any further, I have to draw a distinction between liberals and the people who agree with them. Liberals, the people I’m referring to throughout, are the activists and ideologues; the people who truly believe in their leftist ideas and who fight for them.
People who simply agree with the real liberals on some given issue on the other hand, are not generally the people I’ll be referring to.

1. At the most basic level, the liberal is an adolescent forever in search of a world without moral consequence.

23. The liberal promotes international governments (UN, EU, etc.) which seek to destroy individualism protected by sovereign states.
24. The liberal fears any hint of individualism in any part of the world, and is obsessed with the centralized control of all human activity and thought.
25. “Multi-culturalism” is the code world for a single, oppressive, collectivist culture.
26. Liberals speak often of tolerance, but only tolerate liberals.
27. The liberal seeks to criminalize any speech which promotes morality or individualism as “hate speech”.
28. Environmentalists lie as a matter of course.
29. The liberal’s only method of debate is to insult and discredit anyone who dares to disagree.
30. When possible, liberals opress anyone who questions their beliefs.
31. Liberals despise all innocence - especially the innocence of a child.
32. Liberals seek the sexualization of children and the normalization of pedophilia, all in the pursuit of genital freedom.

34. Private property and individual wealth is integral to individualism, and the enemy of the liberal.

41. Liberals are perfectly willing to destroy you financially, remove your children, and imprison you for what you believe.

43. Liberals are not obsessed with sex, but with promiscuity. Promiscuity is the dominant theme of the liberal media culture.

I know a perfectly nice female attorney who absolutely goes insane when you talk about politics. She immeidately jumps from not liking an administration policy to that means you “hate” the person at the top.
I said, I don’t like this “policy”, I am not indicating whether or not I like the people personally. Isn’t our whole form of government based on freedom to believe and express one’s beliefs as one’s conscience directs? Sheesh

Not to “pathologize” every thing, either, but just for differentiating purposes...to help US better understand, that’s really the main point of these types of analyses, for truly,
it CAN be said that they’re ALL (the disordered) just ‘bad people’, jerks (& worse appellations), toxic...’things’, to be avoided.
You’ve made an interesting point though, it makes me re-direct my thinking a bit, and I appreciate it.
Instead of ‘going on’ about how libs are like Narcissists, they may actually be more like borderlines.
One of the differentials is ‘glib, superficial charm’ (for N’s). It’s one of the differentials counselors use to diagnose. It’s funny too, because experienced counselors will say; NPD ‘feels’ like *this*,
and BPD ‘feels’ like *that*...
(proving what we already know, that it’s not an ‘exact’ science, right?)..
But YOUR point, about the LACK of such ‘charm’ in these headache-inducing pseudo-people, is actually a closer, clearer, and BETTER description of most libs. They’re a humorless bunch, after all!

A conservative thinks it’s dangerous to ride a bike without a helmet, so he wears a helmet.
A liberal thinks it’s dangerous to ride a bike without a helmet, so he fights to get a law passed requiring all people to wear helmets when riding a bike.
First thing I thought of as well. Well, that, and Savage’s dictum that “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.”
