If you are looking for a conservative alternative to Romney and had to choose today between Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum, which one would you choose?
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll (see post 548)
Newt | 225 | 59.7% |
Perry | 77 | 20.4% |
Santorum | 75 | 19.9% |
Yeah. I got the math. I was making a joke to Jim. He and I had a discussion last week on one of the many reasons I don’t like Speaker Moonbeam.
You’re right. There is a place for corporate vultures—those who buy up undervalued companies, strip them of cash and assets, dump the employees, dump the pension liabilities on the taxpayers, sell off whatever they can and pocket the profits. However distasteful, scavengers have their place in our free-market capitalist society.

Would the Newt Gingrich that you want to believe in...would that Newt be pulling crap like this in a primary?
What crap? Oh, the truth about Romney? Now that is crap.
Well allow me to demistify you.
Newt was there for us when the Dems contolled congress for 40 years and he said the GOP could take over. Everyone thought that was a "nutty idea," too. But he attacked Jim Wright and Dan Rostenkowski with the tenacity of a bulldog. He stood in the House well making Special Orders speeches night after night sometimes to an empty chamber. But he never gave up.
I remember him negotiating welfare reform and balanced budgets. NO I'm not saying he did it by himself but he was positively instrumental in it.
I know he's a man of intellect and an understanding of policy nuances that frankly no one in the race comes near. I know he's eloquent and ferocious.
Do I like everything he's done? Of course not. But when you add up his experience, his intellect and his record of accomplishment, there's no one close.
People here blather about him sitting on the couch with Nancy. But google his TESTIMONY against Cap And Trade in 2009 in which he eviscerated Henry Pigman Waxman. Of course you're free to give more credence to a public service announcement if you want, but that doesn't make it sensible.
Perry is a good guy, but his communciation skills are somewhere between ludicrously awful and nonexistent. He's conservative. But he just sounds like a dolt.
Santorum is arguably more conservative than Newt...though not really by a lot. But he's nowhere near as eloquent, experienced or articulate as Newt. Maybe some other time.
I like Newt. You don't? Fine....but he's earned the respect of conservatives everywhere and has done more for the conservative movement than just about anyone this side of Reagan.
Hank
You have the gall to say that after the negative ad onslaught Romney launched against Gingrich in Iowa? I don't care what Newt says or does if it effectively bitch slaps that pandering, flip-flopping, thoroughly unprincipled piece of dog feces, Mittens Romney. Go, Newt.
LOL...Romney...I expect that from Romney. I expect that from any progressive...THAT’S THE POINT!
Fine Hank, but what the hell does Newt mean when he calls himself a “Realpolitik Wilsonian”? I remember when he was Speaker, conservatives were brushed aside at every turn. He is too much of an internationalist for my liking. But, he does have points to his credit, and I will vote for him over Milt in Pa. if Rick is gone. Still Mystified, Bob (lol)
My point is that sometimes you have to dive to the bottom of the sewer to fight your enemy where he lives. I’m sick up to here with the GOP’s McCain-style “honorable campaign” crap. I want a candidate who goes for the throat with glee and laughter.
I am with you on the red meat however we can do it without adopting the class warfare of the left...
Romney is a piece of crap but mark my words...everything Gingrich is doing is just going to make Romney more popular with conservatives (should say misinformed conservatives).
Thanks for the update. Mine says 3 but I voted for Newt. I demand a recount!
j/k :-)
Fist, Palin does not lie. 24,000 emails over nearly 3 years of her Governorship prove that unequivocally. Hell, she doesn't even bad-mouth her brain-dead detractors in private!
Second, it is a woman's prerogative to change her mind, especially when millions of sincere, hard-working Americans are begging you to do so for the good of the country you love more than anything but God and your family.
But I also acknowledge that I am using logic and fact, when all you want to do is fart out your mouth like an imbecile. So, as you were, boot. Carry on like the drooling ape that you are.

Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
I am with Newt on this one.
Dammit, man.. hasn’t she jerked you around enough?
Cut yourself a break and shun the teasing schemer.
If I were approaching this from an "all about me" prespective, I could easily enough adopt your as-stated above mindset. That's the rub.
I'm not hoping she changes her mind to ameliorate some deep personal need or whim. I continue to hope against hope that she will do so because I want what is best for America.
And regardless any other consideration, and totally absent my seeking any personal succor, there is nobody in the field who will do for America what she would as President... the total and relentless reform needed to put this ship aright for the next 40 years or more.
Yeah, I could lick my wounds, get all pissy (I actually did at first) and keep whining about "what she's done to me," but that doesn't count for sh*t. There's a far larger question begging to be answered, and for millions of Americans, that answer continues to come up "Sarah."
Deal with it. Go preach your pansy-drip sissy-spew to some limp-wristed hypochondriac. I've got a Nation to save here, and the damn thing is trying to flatline on me.
:^|
Make that “perspective”.
We have not only to elect a reformist leader here in 2012, but we then have to somehow undo 100 years of progressive agents provocateurs turning this country into a pen full of ignorantly bleating sheep.
God, and God alone..., can accomplish this, and I'm just not convinced it's on His "To Do" list.
What would she do? A half term?
Carry on, keep the faith. The Great Pumpkin will show up someday.
In the meantime consider ordering from the menu.
Going to Pizza Hut and stamping your feet in anger because
they won't serve you any fried fish is indeed demonstrative
of your love for fried fish. But the fact is.. you ain't getting any.
