According to the Quinnipiac Poll released Monday, Romney leads the field among Florida Republicans with 36 percent of the vote, followed by Newt Gingrich with 24 percent, then Rick Santorum at 16 percent. Behind them, Ron Paul has the support of 10 percent of Florida Republicans, Rick Perry has five and Jon Huntsman trails with two percent. The poll also found that 54 percent of Florida Republicans say they could change their minds in the coming weeks.

It is a shaky assumption if one of the not-Romneys dropped dropped out, that all their votes would go to the remaining not-Romneys and none to Romney. Romney would pick up a portion of the votes from anyone who dropped out, and as you point out, Newt and the others have some negatives that will prevent some voters from supporters them.
Better let this thing play out in SC and Florida and see how it looks then.

you are right...these that say if ricky would get out the way then newt would get all his support are laughable...newt got none of the cain people and if ricky drops then his support would go to perry or paul or accept the romney...

Please. Newt was running in the 30s before the ‘Santorum surge’. Now he’s declined by roughly the same amount that Santorum has gained, AND Romney’s picking up steam.
Way to go, Santorum supporters!

Sarah Palin’s endorsing Newt might put a stop to his momentum. She will never endorse Mitt Romney.

Well Santorum is beating Newt in NH. So who again is ruining the chances of getting a conservative to win again? I think you need to reevaluate you insane statement.

Santorum is the warm fuzzy guy who goes home to his family after work. He’s a nice guy. Wonderful father, etc. Politically he talks a big talk but his record shows in the end he was void of any really new or reforming ideas. In the debates he says nothing that makes me look up and say, “You know, I never thought of that.” Newt on the other hand does almost all the time. Fro example, talking about support for research that finds a “cure” for Alzheimer’s rather that pouring billiions into the treatment.
Santorum was the anti-Newt candidate of the moment. I don’t think he seriously thinks he should be president.
Wrong question. The question is what is wrong with conservatives? A large portion of conservatives are married to their pet issues and will not compromise.
Politics is the art of compromise, and if you are not willing to do that then you lose. The logical thing to do right now is to rally behind the conservative candidate who has the best chance of beating Romney in the primaries and Obama in the general...IMHO Newt is that candidate. I do not believe Santorum can win the general, I doubt he can win the nomination, and frankly I don't like most of his record and positions.
I love Santorum. And he is the number one conservative coming out of NH. He will win SC and do well in FL. He is on a roll. He is authentic and real. He has been married for many years with 7 children. And I am a guy who is married many years with four kids and I think Rick Santorum is so moral which is what is needed after 3 years of immoral activity in the White House.
I look for Trump to enter the race if he thinks Romney is going to get it.
Not when Santorum is beating Newt and Perry in NH. That would be dumb to take out the first place conservative guy. Why not have Newt and Perry drop out for the good of the party?
LOL. Just as I’ve sarcastically ridiculed before, Santorum supporters apparently think having a consistent marriage is the #1 most important trait in a leader.
