Newt Gingrich accomplished a great deal in the 1990’s. He helped to get welfare reform passed, lowered taxes, balanced the budget and other things. Paul Ryan has made many positive contributions. There are many others.
Many in Congress worked to try to pass a balanced budget amendment. Think how much better off we would be today had that passed.
Just because Ron Paul has been an ineffective Congressman doesn't mean there aren't some good ones out there.
“It is very difficult for a conservative to get anything done in Congress when half the body is Marxist and the other half is Socialist.”
I agree. But Ron Paul has been in Congress for so many years you would think he would have at least accomplished something. Newt was in Congress for far fewer years than Ron Paul and he had many real achievements.
Many conservatives worked to do good. Newt was in Congress far fewer years than Ron Paul and he accomplished many good things. So did others.
Ron Paul is definitely not “the one guy that tried to stop the madness”. Ron Paul just sat back for all those years he was in Congress and let the liberals spend the country into ruin. Ron Paul was an ineffective legislator.
Better yet, after Congress, for the past 20 plus years has sent the country into an endless pit of debt, blown the national treasure, allowed tens of millions to enter this country illegally, while hundreds of thousands of American jobs were off-shored...What has *anyone* in Congress done to reduce these country killing problems?

Stop this BS...None of this did nothing! The country is flat freaking broke and bankrupt for Gods sake...
Gezzzz
Iran has Hizballah. Hizballah can hit us anywhere, any time they want to.
Ron Paul is a modern pied piper. The kids who follow him live in a constructed reality where they are all-knowing and wise and two steps ahead of the forces of darkness. And they're going to lead this country straight into the abyss.
I realize the country is in danger of insolvency.
That is why we need someone who will actually do something.
Do you think getting millions of people off taxpayer supported welfare means nothing? Do you think lowering the tax rate on capital gains means nothing? Do you think balancing the budget means nothing?
If we had not had these achievements in the past we would not have the financial strength to withstand the current irresponsible spending. Our economy would be much weaker.
The only thing that has kept America from being already bankrupted is the accumulated wealth and economic strength from previous years. The Obama Administration is rapidly destroying that wealth.
Ron Paul has been part of the Washington establishment for decades. He has been in Congress for more years than almost any other legislator. During that time he has done nothing to help prevent the current problems.
Ron Paul is a Stealth Democrat.
That is a FACT.
Ron Paul never bashes Zero, (who he wants to win) or Romney, (who he knows will be easily defeated by Zero.
The Proof is in the pudding. Ron Paul acknowledges that he doesn’t see himself as President and only bashes Conservatives.
Ron Paul is a DEMOCRAT. He’s disgusting that he plays with people acting as if he is Republican when the only people he bases are Conservatives.
“In this globally connected world, if he thinks that we arent threatened by what happens in other countries, hes delusional.”
I really find this theme that “if you don’t agree with X, you’re delusional” to be tiresome.
I don’t happen to agree with RP on foreign policy. But the problem is it doesn’t matter. Because the underlying problem is that we can’t afford an activist foreign policy right now any more than we can afford to continue with endless Wall Street bailouts or to fund a bloated welfare state. We just don’t have the money.
the existential threat?
Yup. THE existential threat. Because amongst all of the candidates posturing for the presidency, he is the one who would actually cut spending by a large amount. Not a little trim here and there, not a decrease in the amount of increase, but actual significant cuts.
He wouldn’t be running for re-election, so he wouldn’t give a rat’s posterior about the “political cost” of doing so, either. That’s why he’s a threat.
Yes, the Judge says he’s Libertarian, but that doesn’t stop him from repeating it or “underscoring” it.
I believe that the right policies can make the Federal Gov’t better and the wrong ones can make them worse. If there’s no difference, why are we arguing?
After 26 years in Congress, Ron Paul ought to know how slowly real changes take.
I do believe that Governor Perry, more than any other candidate, will responsibly use his power as head of the Executive Branch to appoint the right people to head departments and starve out the bureaucracies of some of them.
The key is to make sure we have the votes in the Senate to make us Jeffers- and Specter-proof.
What if there were a “Unified Theory of Conservatism?”

I never back down from what I believe.
I support much of what the old man says. Ya want to call to censor me or ban me?
Have at it!
Hide behind the keyboard??? I swore to up hold and defend the Constitution in the United States Marines. I come from a family that has served honorably in all 4 branches of the armed forces. We love this country very much and were willing to die to protect even loudmouths like yourself.
You know you are a real jackass! Something tells me that is probably not the first time you ever heard that.
Thanks, Grace, but I don’t want to burn anything down to rebuild it later.
I don’t know where that “rebuilding” is going to lead. It’s kinda like calling a Constitutional Convention. Who knows what mischief they could make?
I like this country as it is, even though we are dysfunctional right now.

Did I say we could afford it? NO.
In fact, I agree with your above statement.
However, Ron Paul would have us to be isolationists, with our military confined to our borders.
I don’t happen to agree with that.
Paul would do nothing as president about anything ever, he has already stated that.
I wish he was President in 1933 then. Right now there is much that needs to be done or undone as the case may be.
It’s more urgent than ever, to politically destroy these socialists before they destroy us all. It’s that important. I saw it stated that the next election will literally be about what will America be - the United States of America that most of us grew up in where everyone has the opportunity to seek success as they define it or Socialist Utopian America that the Dems and their lemming-like base want to create, where the only opportunity and success you may get is what’s allowed by the government in the name of equality of outcome.
A run by a third party is out of the question. I worry that the olde guard is not trying to embrace the Independent votes, as the indies will be the ones who decide this critical race. It seems we have a one-party system, and it has two snake heads.
Santorum has an opportunity to do the unthinkable as the anti-Romney. Republicans have been telling us for months that they don’t want to nominate Mitt Romney. The fix may be in.
>>The key is to make sure we have the votes in the Senate to make us Jeffers- and Specter-proof.<<
The electorate is so dumbed down; unless there is a complete collapse, it might happen. Hegel’s Dialectic.
