Some context would be appreciated. What is he being backstabbed about?
For those of us not in Florida, what did they do to West? What is he responding to?
The Republican senate redrew his district to include more Democrats making his reelection prospects very tough.
"Conservatives from Florida to Washington, D.C., were shaken last week as one of the best-known of their voices in Congress was dealt the worst possible hand in the redistricting process. With the release of preliminary maps for Florida’s new congressional districts, the incumbent who inarguably was hit hardest in the process was freshman Republican Allen West, retired U.S. Army colonel and swashbuckling Tea Party conservative.
Originating from the Republican-run state senate, the maps, to be sure, are preliminary and nothing more. The final lines for the state’s 27 U.S. House districts will be drawn up by the House and Senate in January and become law if they survive a court challenge. So the actual fate of West’s 22nd district is a ways off, although the maps were a clear clue as to where the Republican-controlled legislature is headed....."

It appears that the state Senate has offered some electoral redistricting proposals for the lines in West’s district that may not be favorable to his reelection. To paraphrase, West said, “We’ll just have to win regardless.”

The exact second 2012 is decided, I’m going third party, and I do not give a **** what anyone form the GOP says the result will be.

Who knows, after 2012 is in the books a thrid party might become a viable entity. Until such time, I'll stick with the life reing that floats instead of seeing if the one made of lead will do any better...
I understand and even agree with your sentiment, but I won't commit suicide as this is a case where martyrs will serve no positive purpose.
If you redraw the districts to favor your party, then you can have more winnable districts, but they each have a slimmer margin.

Iff the GOP loses to Obama with Romney, then I predict the election of 2012 will mirror the election of 1852, when the Whig Party disappeared and the Democratic Republican party split. The GOP will be finished and a new party will arise in 2016, probably lose, but then come back strong in 2020. The issues of that time were frighteningly similar: slavery, immigration, economics.
I think you're right - the stage is set to make a third party viable, but I fear the damage will be so severe it will take far longer to restore "rightness".

Now West knows how some of us feel about him voting for the Debit Limit Bill. Sucks, doesn’t it Allen?
A third party is a long an lonely road. So, sometimes, is being a conservative in the Republican party. If the Republican party does disband, make no doubt about it, the communists, i.e., the Democrats will attempt to seize power. Not only would conservatives have to form a third party but, possibly, defend the Constitution with arms. Sure hope it does not come to that.
West has put his life on the line to defend those principles. Now, he needs to share what he understands with those who are tempted by the "promiser-in-charge," whose policies enslave people to a government master.
South Florida, like many other areas of America, is made up of citizens from groups whose ancestors have been oppressed in many different countries. The appeal of America's founding ideas is that, no matter where you or your ancestors come from, you, and each of them, are considered as possessing Creator-endowed--therefore, unalienable--rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, unless you violate the rights of your likewise Creator-endowed fellow citizens. That message will resonate today, when it is delivered as someone like West can deliver it.
The so-called "progressive" message is diametrically opposed to that vision of America. It is not "progressive" at all: it relies on a political set of individuals who assume an artificial right to impose their judgments, their controls, and their wishes upon others, and it has led to tyranny and slavery in every society where it has been tried. Such so-called "progressives" fit what Jefferson described as believing themselves to be "a few, booted and spurred," and ready to ride.
Allen West may be just the person to point out the obvious conclusion articulated by Jefferson 200 years ago:

When that message is properly articulated to today's burdened citizens, it will resonate, wherever it is delivered.
I hope it does not come to that either.
Col. West, patriots & conservatives got your back! And I think Independents will support you with their votes, as will disapproving democrats who see the railroading and know what it really means.
We will not tire nor falter.
