South Korea is notorious for giving very lightweight sentences in cases of forcible rape and child molestation, most cases either get 3 years or less in prison or no prison time at all (even though on paper, at least, the max sentence in the ROK for rape is 15 years in prison) but after years and years of ridicule for their light sentencing of rapists and child molesters, the ROK courts might finally be getting tougher on such cases.
This is the case that finally convinced the Korean courts to be more strict on such cases but even 10-12 years is not strict enough by American standards but as I see it, even 10 years is an improvement. Child rape case sparks law revision calls

The reason:
1) He claims he never had sex with her.
2) He claims the sex was consensual.
3) He claims he never met her.

Agreed but that has never been the case in Korea. It may take more horrific cases publicized in the Korean media for the public to demand much stiffer sentencing.
