The best .177 cal. (air) pellet gun to buy [Vanity]
My Brain | 7 January 2012 | Me

Posted on 01/07/2012 8:05:33 AM PST by bjorn14

I live in Norway and as most of you know the handgun laws here are insane but I discovered that .177 cal. pellet guns are exempt from the avalanche of paperwork and most other rules.

With the increasing criminality in Oslo I was thinking of getting one to at least act as a deterent or precieved equalization of the situation. It is better than having nothing.

Prefer CO2 powered. Thanks in advance.

Oslo, Norway? There’s no crime there. It’s a socialist paradise. What? The herrring are holding up people now? Get a lefse gun. Norwegian tortillas. Let ‘em dry out and fling them like Odd Job flung his hat in Goldfinger. Deadly up to 30 yards....unless the criminal has butter and sugar. I’m tellin’ ya, if Norway made their criminals eat ludefisk, there’d be no crime in Norway.

Beeman Kodiak if you can find one. Don't settle for .177, go with the .22 size pellet

I have one and I can make head shots on rabbits out to about 35 yards (haven't had a chance to shoot anything further).

This gun is not a piece of junk, it's a heavy, well crafted rifle with a beautiful walnut stock.

Those who are suggesting some type of edged weapon have a point, that is if they are not illegal too in Norway.

Cold Steel sells a stabbing spear which really would be deadly. Also an Ontario machete would scare the dickens out of me if someone was threatening me with one.

What kind of damage could an .25 caliber air rifle do if the lead you are slinging is doing between 1400 and 1650fps?

PyramidAir has one for $400.

I have a Remington Vantage. It shoots pellets at 1200 fps and is very accurate to 75 yards after patiently zeroing in the scope. Cheap too, $120...

With my Gammo (1200 fps) I’ve dispatched a medium sized raccoon and large ground hog. Later was from less than 10 ft. The beast was fence-fighting with a neighbor’s Alaskan Husky and paying no attention to me. Both with single shots!

22LR can be good for self defense. My 1022 throws a lot of lead and with a 30 round mag it would kill on the first shot, but after getting 20 little slugs into a perp, he might decide to seek softer targets.
But then if reachin in the locker for a rifle, the 12gauge with 00 buck would be the first thing i grabbed.

Prefer CO2 powered.

Stay away from CO2, they just don't have the power. Plus, you are advised to not leave unspent cartridges in the gun as it will destroy the seals.

Since you never mentioned what you were going to do with it, I gave you my thoughts.

If you only want to do some plinking, here's a fun little pistol in CO2, .177, that's actually a semi-automatic

Walther Nighthawk

Another thing about CO2, they are not consistent in their accuracy, the power diminishes as the cartridge is expended.

I recommend Feinwerkbau. If you aren’t afraid of paying for top of the line quality.

Move to Texas and get out of the Muslim hellhole Europe is becoming. Become a harbinger and let US citizens know of what is really going on.

I understand where you’re coming from. It’s not JUST the paperwork, it’s also the hassle you’ll get, at every step of the process. Then, there’s the expense. And, would you also need a an home inspection, too? In Germany, for instance, some areas, such as Mannheim, require the police come to your home and perform a “safety of surroundings” inspection. They’ll also tell you that you can’t have a weapon that they say is too powerful for your needs or the size of your property. In addition to all that, we’re talking Norway here, not Los Angeles, I doubt you’ll be facing the murderous thugs that are the Crips, Bloods, and MS13.

You probably aren’t interested in killing someone, only scaring them away or, at best, holding them off till the police arrive. So, first off, a Dog is your best first line of defense. Install a very loud alarm system, one that also turns on or flashes lights is a plus. Get self protection training WITH that dog. Then, an air PISTOL might be effective in scaring someone. Make sure it looks like a real handgun.

Lastly, place large strips of PORK around the perimeter of your property, and mark them plainly with a lit or shiny Crucifix Cross.

Good luck.

Yes, they are illegal in Norway...you can be arrested for carrying something bigger than 2” I believe.

A Wrist Rocket with a 13mm Ball Bearing would be more effective than a pellet gun.

I use standard velocity in my 10/22 for possums. It cycles the action and at is very quiet because a possum will let me almost put the muzzle between its eyes.

The .177 pellet rifle has potential. A few years back, a buddy got interested in them and competition air rifle shooting. He then got into specialty gas mixtures and modified his Crossman air rifle to take mixtures from a small portable tank. He even got a patent for his modifications. Crossman licensed his patent from him and he’s now fixed for cash for several years to come. His modified Crossman air rifle has the ability to fire a .177 pellet at nearly 4500 fps. This air rifle sounds like a a .223 and will put a pellet completely through a 4”x4” piece of framing lumber. As I recall the gas mixture is half hydrogen and half helium.
I believe Crossman has these for sale now. This would have the ability to seriously get an intruder’s attention. You’ll have to check the Crossman catalogs for competition air rifles.

How pathetic, the land of my Viking ancestors reduced to less that 2" blades and airguns. All of Europe has allowed itself to be emasculated by their fears and their government.

America is truly the last bastion of personal liberty and we are throwing it away as fast as we can.
