Here is the actual survey:

National Survey of 1,000 Adults
Conducted January 4-5, 2012
By Rasmussen Reports

1* Do people learn more practical skills in college or through life experiences and work after college?

2* In today’s economic environment, is a college degree still a good financial investment?

3* Which of the following educational option offers the best value for the money - a four-year college, a two-year community college, a Masters degree, vocational school, or an online degree?

4* In America today, can just about any good student who wants to attend college find a way to do so?

5* Should every American attend a post-secondary school institution, whether it be college or some kind of vocational school?

6* One major city is now considering a proposal that would require all high school students to apply to at least one college before graduating. Do you favor or oppose a law in your community that would require all high school students to apply to at least one college as a requirement for graduation?

7* The same city is also considering a proposal that would require all high school students to take college entrance exams like the SAT or ACT. Do you favor or oppose a law in your community that would require all high school students to take college entrance exams as a requirement for graduation?

8* Who is most responsible for determining whether a student should apply to college – parents, the school system, the government or the students themselves?

9* If a student is accepted into college but cannot afford to go, should the government pay for that student’s college education?

NOTE: Margin of Sampling Error, +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence

Wonder how many of them have connected the government paying for college with the rise in tuition for those who don’t qualify for government help?

The 38% in favor of the govt footing the bill for college should be arrested and deported. They are all socialist, country wrecking swine.

The ‘gimmie’ generation. Back in the late 60’s early 70’s I had a full time job and went to night school. It took me 7 years to get a BS in Marketing Management. That was 7 years of hell with classes 4 nights a week and most of Saturday. I was carrying an average of 20 credits a semester. Those were the good old days. No gov’t handout. These people make me sick.

38% Say Government Should Pay for College for Those Who Can't Afford It

What they're saying is that tax payers should pay for it.

Perhaps they would like to lead by example, and offer to pay for it out of THEIR pockets. After all, that's what they're saying ALL tax payers should do.

If everyone does it, college becomes 13th through 16th grades, and is then mostly worthless. Less than worthless for conservative families who didn’t want their kids to be indoctrinated liberals or booze and drug connoisseurs.

I wonder what percent think the state should also take the ACT or SAT exam FOR them if they can’t score well enough to be admitted?

In 1961, I was in sixth grade, and we were getting one of those “you all have to go to college” lectures from our teacher, and we had been getting the same lecture from our parents for all of our short lives.

One student asked what was probably the most pertinent question fo our age - “If everyone is smart, who will do the dirty work?”

With everyone going to college to get a white collar job, nobody wanted to do production line work. So, the factories closed and and we import what we used to make here in America.

So, after almost two generations of everyone going to college, and most not belonging there, many of the ones who did not belong in college, and are too lazy to work in a factory, and are too stupid to figure it out, ended up in one of the Occupy camps.

Too many colleges are just indoctrination mills into Socialist dogma.

Many people have made the big time without college. Think Albert Einstein. Rush Limbaugh’s father insisted he go to college. Rush tried it and dropped out within the first year. His father told him he’d never amount to anything.

Should the government (you and your neighbors) buy me an iPad if I cannot afford it? A new pair of fancy Nike’s? A Honda Civic? Pay for my haircut? A flatscreen TV?

Why not, just print more “money”.

What I don't understand is, why does every job now require a college degree, at least an associates degree? Back in the day, if you wanted to work in a doctor's office (other than an RN), the doctor hired you and trained you to answer the phone and handle patients. Now you have to attend a community college, take prerequisites, then get on a waiting list, then take two years of classes just to be a medical assistant. It's a racket. (Community college tuition is not cheap anymore, either).

My daughter has been trying to enter that field. In fact, she landed a job as a medical assistant in a doctor's office without completing a medical assisting course and worked there for nearly a year before the practice was audited by the state and she was terminated because she didn't have her "credentials". She was doing a great job, in fact, the doc liked her so much during the time she was there, he gave her more responsibility and a raise. The patients loved her, and that's what he really cared about.

Bottom line is, she'd spend about $10,000 to land a $12.00/hr. job. How could she pay off a loan that size and support herself? She's currently waitressing, saving up the money.

Aren’t they listening to the 99%? Protesters are whining that they can’t get jobs despite their degrees. So what’s the use????

They are talking out of both sides of their mouths. Either college degrees will get you a job or they won’t.

I’m sure that gumption and effort have nothing to do with it.

The next question should have been, “how much are you willing to have your taxes go up to pay for these kids’ college?” These attitudes disgust me. 38% is a big chunk of the American population. And I have no reason to believe that this poll is flawed. I bet 38% of Americans really do believe this nonsense. And I also bet they believe that “the rich” should be the ones paying for it. Its more of the “Gimme gimme gimme and make the rich pay for it” attitude that infests way too many Americans. Give me and everyone else the good life without having to pay for it.

A Big Part of the educational process of going to college is figuring how to pay for it...certainly anyone working summers and part time to contribute to its cost has a greater appreciation for the education, will work harder to complete it, and and pride in having earned it both financially and educationally.
