"It has recently come to our attention that your station has either been asked to run, or may soon be asked to run, various advertising spots produced by the Mitt Romney aligned SuperPAC “Restore Our Future” or Romney for President, the principal campaign committee of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Included among the Romney advertisements submitted to your station for broadcast are likely to be various advertisements which specifically mention Speaker Gingrich and purport to quote or reference the findings of a 1997 report issued by the House Select Committee on Ethics (the “Report”).
The content of these advertisements state and/or suggest that, Speaker Gingrich was “fined” $300,000 for “violations” of congressional rules. These statements are NOT TRUE. In fact, ANY statement, suggestion, or innuendo that Speaker Gingrich was assessed a congressional fine for violations of House Ethics Rules is fundamentally false and misleading. If published after your receipt of this letter, it will be a knowing publication of a false statement. As such, it represents a defamatory communication which exposes this station to potential civil liability. In turn, we do hereby DEMAND that your station immediately REFUSE, and if started, CEASE airing any such advertisements and refrain from broadcasting their content until such time as the libelous statements have been removed."

rockinqsranch, have you checked out Restore Our Future? that is one of the super pacs behind Romney. They are pros at operating just barely within the law and airing lies. Remember the FOB’s? the Friends of Romney include Forti, Gillespie and Rove. Rove groomed Forti to fight dirty and he did a good job.

Read post 14 if you want to know the real scoop. Even the IRS under Clinton found after the fact that the tax issue was NOT mishandled.
As I recall, about 83 charges were alleged. That is politics. Now, he will have to justify the facts regarding the outcome. I think he can, else he would not have made the threat.

I believe Newt is helping Romney more than hurting him. Folks here in FL are starting to think he is on a personal vedetta. Newt’s votes are going to go to Perry or Samtorum. Worse yet undecideds will go to Romney just to get this atrocity over with.
Right now many are just on the Anyone But Obama Bus. Low ratings I suspect for Sat/Sun debates. Folks are getting worn out with the process.
You are right! I am in Florida and received the first mailer yesterday from Restore Our Future attacking Newt with a claim that he co-sponsored with Pelosi a $60M funding bill to UN Population Fund to support China’s one-child policy and “backed even more legislation that provided taxpayer-funded abortions”. They cleverly use a separate references from CatholicVote.org and Southern Baptist Convention against UN Pop. Fund but they don’t tie these criticisms to Gingrich.
Follow the money and we see who Romney is fearful of. He has his partners in slime the defeated John McCain and now John Sununu Sr., the one we have to thank for David Souter. Sununu was attacking Newt for pointing out that Romney had
liberal, pro-abortion judges appointed to the Mass. courts. This outrage coming from Sununu was too much to bear.
The establishment is pulling all stops to defeat the conservatives. I donated to Newt.org yesterday and I am going to give more!

Fox obviously will not be the only one getting paid to run these 'ads' for romney.
Just wait till the next debate.... Newt will eviscerate this country club mannequin and chop his guts into little pieces.

Eighty four politically motivated ethics charges were filed against Newt when he was Speaker of the House regarding the use of tax exempt funds for a college course he taught titled “Renewing American Civilization.” Eighty-three of the eighty-four charges were found to be without merit and dropped. The remaining charge had to do with contradictory documents prepared by Newt’s lawyer supplied during the course of the investigation. Newt took responsibility for the error and agreed to reimburse the committee the cost of the investigation into that discrepancy. In 1999, after a 3 ½ year investigation, the Internal Revenue Service (under President Bill Clinton, nonetheless) concluded that Gingrich did not violate any tax laws, leading renowned CNN Investigative Reporter Brooks Jackson to remark on air “it turns out [Gingrich] was right and those who accused him of tax fraud were wrong.”
