Perry says he will compete nationwide

Three days after cancelling appearances in South Carolina and returning to Texas to “reassess” his presidential campaign, Texas Gov. Rick Perry released a statement Friday saying he will compete nationwide.

"As my campaign for president moves forward, our superior organization and resources allow me to compete nationwide, where I’m confident our unmatched jobs record, conservative fiscal and social policies, and status as the only Washington outsider can win over Republican voters," Perry said in a news release announcing he had filed paperwork to be listed on primary election ballots in Arizona, Illinois, Ohio, Vermont and Washington, D.C.

South Carolina is a primary. Much easier to drop by and vote anonymously.

Vote totals could be four times higher in SC than Iowa.

And because it's an open primary, expect the liberals to try and wreak havoc.

Hey Rick, here is something to put in your speeches, and debates:

OBAMA”CARE” IS A MONOPOLY, AND THEREFORE VIOLATES THE ANTI-TRUST LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

BTW, if you do that I will vote for you on Super Tuesday.

(Yeah, I know, - - - “everybody has their price.”)

I’ve never seen you make a statement that wasn’t derisive. Can you make a non-derisive statement?

That's an odd request from someone who took it upon themselves to suggest to me:

Why don’t you do yourself in?

Are you sure SC is an open primary? I thought I heard otherwise on tv.

Are you sure SC is an open primary? I thought I heard otherwise on tv.

Nope, it's open, although they are trying to close it through lawsuits. This is from a SC TV station a few days ago:

http://www.wyff4.com/r/30146394/detail.html

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The open format of the South Carolina presidential primaries -- allowing anyone to vote regardless of party affiliation -- has been a burr in some Republican saddles for years.

"We were concerned enough to file a lawsuit, to try to close our primaries in South Carolina. The way it's written now, anyone can vote in any of our primaries," said Patrick Haddon, former chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party.

Current chairwoman Betty Poe said the party is still pursuing legal action to close the primaries, and Rep. Garry Smith, R-Simpsonville, has introduced legislation to make primaries closed in the state.

That's why I think it's going to be a circus and bad for us - Ron Paul supporters will distort the numbers towards Paul and Democrats are going to vote Romney.

The latest Rasmussen in SC from a few days ago has:
Romney 27
Santorum 24
Gingrich 18
Paul 11
Perry 5
Huntsman 2

I think because it's an open primary and because the Democrats don't have to pick between any Democrats, Romney will do better than 30% and Paul will hit 15%. Just too much potential for liberals and libertarians to skewer this primary.

And the MSM is really pushing Romney being out front this morning, and Nikki Haley appears to be campaigning hard for him :(

I want to believe that all of the Christians will turn out against Romney, but there's a lot of Democrats that will counter that and vote for Romney.

Thank you for that. It occurred to me that I should do my own homework, but you sounded certain enough that I thought you'd be able to back up what you wrote. Nice job!

I am confident that a serious conservative contender will emerge from SC and my best guess (and hope) is it will be Newt.

It feels so great supporting the best candidate, the ONLY true fiscal and social conservative. He stands far and above all the others.

Since you are not for Perry why do you come to threads about him. You are not a nice person and only seem to be a disrupter.

Sorry sweetiecakes, but my comment was a reference to Palin.

You get the impression I'm against Perry? Well, I suggest you research a
bit further before mouthing off about things you just assume on a whim.

Now go make a sandwich for somebody.

I really perceive from the Perry campaign that it is not grasping the fundamentals. And that has to change if Perry is going to turn things around in the primaries, let alone take it to Obama in the general.

To add to it, Politico is reporting that Perry canned his ad buying firm.

That could be seen as a good thing for Perry, but the article says that Perry's spokesman was unaware of them being fired. If that's the case, that's twice in 5 days that Perry's spokesman did not have current information about an important event - first when Perry went back to Texas to reassess his campaign, and now this.

Either way, I don't know that the ad buying folks are to blame for the problems with the campaign - I thought some of the ads were effective in Iowa, unless they are being blamed for not helping him in Iowa.

The article mentions the Perry campaign is getting tight on money, and that's something I've heard elsewhere, but Perry has Super PACs backing him so I don't see why money would be an issue.

I only looked into it because I thought it odd that so much importance was being placed on SC when it was an open primary in a year when the Democrats were incumbents. I actually figured they would have changed that before now.

Hello —

Personally, I haven't previously commented on any of the current candidates at all.

Privately, I have preferred several at different times, but, for reasons unknown, hadn't had a positive impression of Rick Perry.

However, I do want to commend you and thank you for the work you are doing for Gov. Perry.

I was so sad to hear his comments Tuesday night about reassessing, and was quite glad that he resumed the fight on Wednesday.

Admittedly, the polling numbers in South Carolina look bad right now, but it seems that a week is a lifetime in this campaign.

If it is meant to be, I know the Lord, given the Blessings He has already given our nation, will make a way for the Governor.

While I may not agree with Perry on every issue, to me, these decisions are more about how a man carries himself and his character (as best we can perceive it).

IMHO, I will observe that the issues a President needs to navigate are often not even on the radar screen during the election season!

In conclusion, while I mean no disrespect to the other candidates (in varying degrees), I grow increasingly comfortable with the Governor, and hope that the good people of South Carolina will rally to his cause.

Keep up the good work, and keep the faith!

Regards,
