Newt Gingrich on Thursday called for Congress to defund the National Labor Relations Board in retaliation for President Barack Obama¹s decision to make three recess appointments to it.
Speaking at a rally in Plymouth, N.H., the Republican presidential candidate said cutting money from the agency would be the "correct response" to Obama's move.
"The answer to an imperial president is a Congress which stands on its own rights. And the correct response to what the president just did would be for the Congress to zero out and refuse to fund the National Labor Relations Board," Gingrich said.
"The National Labor Relations Board now has a majority of members who were never confirmed by the U.S. Senate. This is a clear violation of the spirit of the law, and Congress has an obligation to defend our rights, and the correct way is the power of the purse."

My point exactly. The republicans will not send a continuing resolution that will be vetoed for fear of being blamed for the government shutdown. Just like caving on the paryoll tax, the spineless leadership just won’t stand firm. Truth is they don’t won’t to defund anything.
Except for the Pelosi/Frank/Lautenberg/Reid/Boxer/Jackson-Lee/Waters crowd, the Democrats may be the unexpected ally to put Obama down. No one wants to lose their power, and Obama is directly challenging the entire Congress and Senate.
And what is the collected wisdom of the five midgets (Romney, Santorum, Perry, Huntsman and Paul). Any responses to the communist at all, or just quiet acceptance? If anyone here supports any of the five, what does your candidate have to say????????
Got this message from Congressman John Fleming (FB friend):
“For those who were wondering....My staff looked up the question, “why can’t Congress defund the ‘Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’ to which Obama recess appointed its head even though there is no Senate recess.” By Democrat design and as enacted into law through the Dodd-Frank legislation, the CFPB is funded directly through the Federal Reserve rather than through the annual appropriations process, leaving Congress without any means to decreasing or eliminating funding for the Bureau.”
Gingrich said he would fire the head of the Fed Reserve. Newt is referring to the National Labor Board. As for consumer protection and Dodd-Frank...congress should move to repeal it. There are always loopholes
That Wascally Newt is at it again! Go get ‘em NEWT!
Regardless whatever shortcomings he may have, this is just the sort of thing where Newt rises far above the field, IMO.
“...Doesnt the budget have to be signed by the POTUS...”
“...Yes budgets do have to be signed by the president...”
-
Not exactly.
A bill can become law without his signature.
The president’s only choice is to veto or not veto.
Would the media claim “the president shut down the government”?
Or would they still blame the evil republicans?
Article I Section 7:
“If any bill shall not be returned by the President
within ten days after it shall have been presented to him,
the same shall be a law, in like manner as if he had signed it...”

Cool. Thanks for the explanation, all.
Indeed, the whole systems of checks and balances assumes that no branch will be willing to let the other branches step on their toes. Pretty good judges of human nature, the Founders were.
This is why we need to elect Newt Gingrich President. He knows what he’s doing and and he knows how to get things done. I am beyond annoyed that he has now allowed himself to get down in the polls because he suddenly got religion and won’t run negative ads. Its going to be a real problem. He needs to shine in that debate tomorrow night and on Sunday morning on Meet The Press.
...technically u are correct but I bet if these guys aren’t paid, they want show up for work.....just saying...!
Perhaps we'll find out if we actually have two parties of different political views or if they are the same , just with different names to fool the public.
