What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.
Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided

good grief, we are never going to get rid of Santorum now, I am afraid Romney may have this now because of Santorum :(
Don’t believe any of the polls at this point.
It is unclear to me how Mitt Romney can get more than 25% of the SC caucus vote. And for him, expanding that percentage will be next to impossible. His support is NOT Elastic and his opposition is entrenched.
I simply do not see how Mitt can get the nomination.
He will not carry the south. Won’t happen.
Look at these polls:

Polls the Gee-Oh-Pee Dont Want You to See
Newt is frontrunning and being hacked in polls.
18% (Newt)+ 5% (Perry)+24% (Santorum) = 47%.
Can’t conservatives add, or is it all ego?
If two of these conservatives dropped out, Mitty would be history.
Santorum, Newt and Perry are all to the right of Romney.
If just one of them got all the votes, Romney would be history - and THAT is what we want.
None of the candidates are worth much (you name the candidate, someone will name the problems), but Santorum seems the best of the lot.
Since I don’t expect much from the government, all I want is someone to undo some of the damage Obama has done. The Federal Government is slow moving by design, that’s probably the best we can get from anyone.
Romney and the establishment are smart. They are taking Romney's 25% and making it look strong. Iowa spin is he did well for a Mormon in an evangelical state. In New Hampshire, the Spin will be that he sacrificed a larger victory to campaign in SC. In South Carolina, the spin will be he did well in a state that is not his base.
They are going to take his 25% to each state and wear down the opposition.
I think I will send money to both Newt and Santorum.
As pointed out already here, should the continued attrition of candidates occur, most of those supporters would likely go to Santorum.
Right now, Santorum is in great shape and it's his race to win or lose.
Yep, Mitt has what he is going to get. With attrition of candidates the votes will go to “other than Mitt” candidates.
Just how it is.
Good news for Santorum fans... He’s replaced Newt for the moment (bounces have a shelf life) as the Romney alternative.
Bad news for the Santorum fans... Romney has significantly increases his support in S.C. as well.
Will the new flavor of the month have the wherewithal to pose a serious challenges to the Mitt Machine? Or will the air of inevitability suffocate the new upstart with little money or organization? Has Iowa sealed the fate for those pining for a Not Romney?
Four more debates between now and S.C.. Will they have an impact?
Odds. Based on this news from S.C.. Romney’s chances just got a lot better.
Awe.............hurt so bad.
Santorum will have the money and the BIG MO to compete in SC.
GO RICK!
Odds. Based on this news from S.C.. Romneys chances just got a lot better.
Then Perry needs to drop out. He’s going NOWHERE.
Bump for Rick Santorum!
1. He has been very successfully governing one of the largest economies in the US and the world (Texas)
2. He is the only candidate with military experience and SC is full of military - active and veterans.
3. He is very conservative as are most in SC.
4. He is the only evangelical Christian in the group and SC is full of evangelical Christians.
Agreed his debating skills are lacking but good debaters do not make good presidents.
What's his problem?? - just asking!!
I think you meant to say..
Santorum will have the money and the BIG MO to ... split the vote enough to give Romney the win.
*sigh*
What in the hell is wrong with the Republican Party?
if great shape means no money, organization, or chance then yes Santorum is positioned in great shape.
*sigh*
Awe...........
First it was “wait till we get to SC”
Now it’s Santorum spliting the vote.
That’s all we have heard from u Newt Supporters
Well, well, well, We are about to get to SC.
Newt will get sliced and diced in SC, like he
got sliced and diced in Iowa.
If I were a Newt supporter, I’d want to know why
he is holding on to that war chest. He’s not doing
anything with money.
That’s why Perry needs to drop out.
