MERIDEN - A new mosque is a welcome addition to the mix of religious institutions on East Main Street and represents the city's history of religious tolerance, said the Rev. James Olson, pastor of Center Congregational Church. "I think it's great there are Muslims in the community," Olson said Wednesday. "Part of Meriden's heritage has always been religious diversity. I think it's just a reflection of what Meriden is."
The Islamic Association of Southern Connecticut Inc. received Zoning Board of Appeals approval Tuesday to occupy a former funeral home at 189 E. Main St. as a place of worship.

Fool.
"The Islamic Association of Southern Connecticut ... to occupy a former funeral home...as a place of worship."
How fitting.
"Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless
to the unbelievers but merciful to one another" - Quran 48:29
Infidels: freepmail me if you want on or off this list.
"The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets,
the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers."
The good reverend’s statement evidences quite well the sickness that is the current state of Western society. Western society has lost its capacity to exclude, hence its capacity for greatness.
I can imagine this guy spouting this BS as he's being hauled to prison for "insulting the prophet"
This is guy is a poster boy for the concept of “useful idiot”.
IDIOT and when there is enough of them they will take over, take your church and force your crowd out.
If people think that is bigoted then I suggest you look at countries which have a certain % of muslims and see how their countries are turning and have turned.
What is it with the church lately as they seem to be clueless about what is really going on?
Diversity tolerance, aye and I;m sure they will feel the same when they are 255 of them.
Personally I like a place where we all speak the same language, we all have the same morals, oh just like where I live.
Oy yes. What a joy it is to have muslims in the community. They are such peaceful people...
Dhimmi Rev. James J. Olson
"Reverend Olson comes to Meriden from his most recent post as Associate Dean of Religious Life for Marsh Chapel at Boston University, where he was also a University Chaplain. While in his new pastorship in Meriden, he will also continue to teach at the Boston University School of Theology. Reverend Olson previously served as Pastor of Greater Hartford United Church of Christ in Hartford, Vermont, and as Minister of Music and Worship at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rev. Olson is a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and a Master of Sacred Theology from Boston University School of Theology, where he is currently completing a Doctor of Ministry degree. Rev. Olson has also been a visiting scholar at Regent's Park College, Oxford University, England. Rev. Olson resides in Meriden with his husband, the Rev. Darrick Jackson, a Unitarian-Universalist minister; their two cats, and a lot of books."
Lol. That explains it. He'll be the first to be decapitated.
See post 8 for how right you are.
Yep. I wonder how ‘great’ he will think that is after he even tries to convert one of them to his church and has his head hacked off for his efforts.
Hey...rules are rules.
well his background now explains it all.
idiot
We can’t make this stuff up!!!!
Why is it that the most intolerant religion on the planet seems to always be welcomed with open arms?
They are here to conquer you, you fools.
Meriden is a dump getting close to resembling New Haven. I know at one point a Mosque was proposed in Wallingford, but I’m pretty sure that never went through. It was in a residential neighborhood. I wonder if this is the same group?
Just wait till they start putting guns and ammo in the basement...wonder what the pastor will say then.
Which has now come to an end.
You know, I sort of guessed that when I saw the picture.
