Jim Robinson: Taking stock of our dwindling conservative inventory
Jan 5, 2011 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/05/2012 11:23:02 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Tea party favorite and pro-life conservative Sarah Palin and her family were viciously attacked to the point she chose not to run.

Congressional Tea Party Caucus leader and constitutional pro-life conservative Michele Bachmann had early promise, but I guess came across as too "shrill" and consequently her numbers driven down to the point she exited.

Successful pro-life conservative Texas Governor Perry hit the race at the top but due to missteps and less than stellar debate performances soon fizzled and is now all but gone.

Pro-life conservative businessman Cain and his famous 9-9-9 plan had promise, but was driven out due to indefensible allegations.

Pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative Newt Gingrich reinvigorated his campaign and soared to the top of the national polls, but was unacceptable to the establishment and apparently also unacceptable to the "true conservatives" among us and his numbers are now plummeting

You'd think "unquestionably" pro-life, pro-family conservative Rick Santorum whose recent surge took him to a tie in Iowa and who's now surging in the national polls might be good enough to stand against Romney for the base, but looks like there are "true conservatives" now attacking HIM as not good enough.

Well, drive them all out and who's left?

Huntsman? Who? Moonbat Paul?

Ideas anyone? Should we all continue attacking the conservatives we don't like until we drive them all out?

Personally, I could easily have lived with Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt or Santorum and would be proud to enthusiastically support any of them, warts and all. Any one of them is infinitely better than Obama or Romney.

But if we don't land on one soon and raise him up over Romney, guess who we're going to be stuck with? And it ain't going to be pretty. And if abortionist/statist/progressive Romney (or moonbat Paul) is the one, might as well get used to four more years of Obama. I won't vote for or support either one of those two.

I'd suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites. Who knows? May even discover an acceptable conservative (if not a great conservative) in the bunch. We've never had a perfect conservative yet. Not even the magnificent Ronald Reagan. We and they all have warts.

But we do want to have a candidate with at least an actual CONSERVATIVE record and not an out and out liberal progressive RINO. So let's compare their records and their actual conservative accomplishments but not try to destroy them personally.

God bless and may the best CONSERVATIVE be our nominee.

"Just swell. Hard communism, here we come. Obamacare is here to stay. Son of a bitch. We are so screwed."

Wow. I never would have believed it if you hadn't put it in writing on the internet...

LMAO!!!

I know that this makes lots of people snicker (actually, it's a desperate, pathetic few, but I like to humor them. I can be generous... after all, I get to be me all day long every day. They don't.), but I'll wait until Palin throws her bonnet into the ring. Should be before the end of February.

And to all those who revere me so much that they have either "archived" my prior posts, or have searched through thousands of hours of FreeRepublic "Archives" to dig up old rants of mine, I sincerely thank you. The honor is palpable, and so very sweet.

JimRob... Happy New Year! The next time I'm in Fresno, I'll bring you a blintz! KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREEP WORLD!!!!

8^)

I don’t see us ready to go into panic mode. I think Newt actually thought that Romney was going to stick to the issues and not spend millions in a negative campaign against him.

It actually back fired. We now head into NH where Romney is at a high water mark of 41%. Santorum, Newt and Paul are going to whittle that down until the guy is in his teens. EVen if he wins, he, Romney, goes into SC and FL weak.

I’m sticking with Newt. The same thing happened to REagan. I’m confident Newt will think of something.

And one last thing...you might be right that FRs are passionate about their candidate, but it’s been the Ann Coulters, Glen Becks, Mark Steyn’s, GEorge Will, Charles K etc etc who have been lambasting Newt when you’d think they would take part in the discussion.

Coulter talks about liberal going after you personally if when they dont’ wish to debate the issues. Now look, she’s doing just that.

Who can disagree with what Newt says, and his solutions?

No, I disagree. The primaries are healthy, providing we have someone coming out of this strong enough to take on Obama and the media. The only person capable of doing that is Newt.

I’ve decided to go with Newt.

I’m actually at a point where I am considering not voting if Romney is the choice. I’ve gone along with Dole and McCain, but Romney is different. The MOrmon church decided on grooming this guy for the presidency 35 years ago.

Sure, there is too much similarity. Much too much. Both are pro-abortion, pro-gay, and pro-socialized medicine. I don’t want Romney, but at worst he would be more like Baby Bush selling out to big business than he would be like Obama, fundamentally transforming our national system of government from a Republic to hard socialism.

Romney is a liberal Republican who is no ally of ours, but if you can’t see the inherent danger that Obama poses to America over every Republican candidate running, I think you are wilfully blind to it.

Thanks, Bro, that’s the point I keep making. Save America...keep their feet to the fire AFTER OBAMA IS GONE...if Romney wins, who is NOT MY FAVORITE, he better FIRE EVERYBODY WITHIN 500 feet of the white house.

I know of several Ron Paul volunteer satellites

There were several here in 08, but I haven't seen one this cycle.

Again, you are not looking at the record of those ROE for the forces under the command of the Governor.

The DPS is not armed with rubber pellets. They have real guns, real bullets, helicopters and planes.

Very well said.

It seems to be forgotten that John McCain was not promoting Obamacare. He wasn’t my choice of a candidate either, but I voted for him. Staying home or voting for Obama was not an option.

Now, Supreme Court appointments are in play as well, as they were in 2008. I fear that the circular firing squad will do its best to depress enthusiasm for our eventual candidate, whoever that may be.

Mr. Robinson, in case Romney becomes the nominee of the republican party, allow me to say thank you for providing us with this wonderful forum to discuss issues.

I'd suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites.

First, I'll suggest that we stop trying to tear down each other because of disagreement about the candidates.

The level of personal attacks and vitriol has escalated to a point I've never seen here, and I've been around for a while.

Well then lets work at getting Perry to sign this pledge.

But honestly, are pledges that important and can they be relied upon or carried out ?? Are they a legal document or ???
( I dunno so I’m asking a sincere question here )

By the way, have you read his book FED UP! ??? I’m reading it now and it’s awesome.

I haven’t seen any signs for anyone in any neighborhood... I live in a state where primaries are decided long before it gets here.

Simple fact is as long as there is more than 1 viable non Romney, romney wins.. doesn’t matter if 55-60% of primary voters don’t want him, if he’s pulling 35-40% of the vote, and the other 60-65% is split, you get Romney.

That’s just undeniable math.

thank you for this...I think we are getting inpatient and worried. There is a massive attempt by Obama and the media to get Romney in there. Ann Coulter and the others are buying into it, completely ignoring the man’s record. Then on the other hand, you can’t find ONE person to refute what Newt says. He’s has everything in detail of what he would do.

There’s plenty of guilt, mine included, to go around on those Perry threads. That’s why I stopped visiting them quite some time ago. Acrimony, accusations and caustic statements flew both ways. Much of it fueled by disagreement on his illegal-immigration record. I finally had enough and boycotted them.

I’ve also settled down and realized we simply don’t have a shining star this season; at least in a true conservative sense. They all have warts, they all leave us with some desire for ‘more’, but it’s what we have to deal with. Besides, this is primary season, not the general run-up. I’ll vote for either Gingrich or Santorum in the Illinois primary; Santorum being a little more ahead in my mind right now. If Perry surges again and wins the nomination, so be it. No to Huntsman (I doubt he’ll be around by Illinois), ‘You gotta be kidding me’ to Paul, Hell No! to Romney. But I will not engage in any further contentious campaign acrimony. I’m sorry I fell into it. And will not allow myself to be part of the problem.

Yes, he certainly does. He doesn’t have the record to back it up. That is my biggest concern with Newt. He has rhetoric without the record

****

Rhetoric without the record? Were you born in the last five years? Do you remember the 90’s when Newt was speaker and what he accomplished? In office??

I’m not sure we’re talking about the same person.

Ok, so Romney worked at Bain capital or whatever he did ...whatever. IN OFFICE we see what he did ...governend like a moderate liberal, ok’d every liberal cause from gays to abortion, raised taxes and everything else in between. THAT is Rom’s record ...I’ll take Newt’s anyday over that. Newt is and was entirely conservative.
