DES MOINES, Iowa/MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (Reuters) - Michele Bachmann was out, Rick Perry was back and Rick Santorum was up in the most volatile Republican presidential nominating contest in decades on Wednesday, as conservative Republicans searched for an alternative to frontrunner Mitt Romney.
.............
An afterthought in the race until now, Santorum could have difficulty scaling up his campaign to compete in other states. On Wednesday, his website apparently crashed under a deluge of traffic.
Santorum has escaped close scrutiny so far, but rivals have plenty to work with if they want to attack him as a Washington insider at a time when anti-government anger is running high....
South Carolina's January 21 primary is shaping up to be a crucial test.

Good. Hang in there and see how you fare in South Carolina before making anymore decisions. I’m sure he’ll do fairly well there.
The evil mills of the liberal gods are just now beginning to grind up stuff about Santorum.
It’s gonna be ugly. We’ll see how he fares.
Rick Perry has already been through that mill and may come back strong in South Carolina.
It ain’t over till it’s over.
I think Perry has to tell the people how he’s going to beat Obama and how he’s going to get us back on track. He’s been touting his credentials and experience which is all well and good but most of us want to know how this mess is going to be fixed.
I am reallly serious about this. Going scorched earth on certain Politico, WaPO, CNN reporters and/or the like, in a heaping round of "payback". Otherwise they will keep it up all season until next November in order to relected their boy Obongo. Let the "Herman Cain Case" serve as a wake up call, Conservatives. Who is in with me on this? Who will help FReeper Research anyone found engaging in this character assassination through the fourth estate of some of our good Conservative choices for President left in the ring? We do know it is coming. It is a given. We ought to have a counter attack strategy in place and they ought to also know in advance we have it constructed.
"Iowa picks corn, New Hampshire picks campaigns' pockets and South Carolina picks Republican presidents, and it is far from settled in South Carolina," former state Republican Party chairman Katon Dawson, a Perry supporter, told Reuters.
I wish Rick Perry luck. My caucus isn’t for over a month, and I’ll be closely watching developments between him and Santorum to see who could benefit most from my vote. Hopefully, one will have dropped out and made room for the other by then. I’m bandwagoning behind Santorum at the moment because I think his momentum might actually finally unite the Christian conservative vote - but I won’t forget that I like Perry best.
I’m with you.
It can cross all candidates camp for a common cause. FR has some of the best cyber sleuths and super reporters and diggers around.
Expose and humiliate tit-for-tat lib MSM reporters who are out to destroy Conservatives running for the nomination through ad hominem and personal attacks in order to reelect their Messiah Obama. They will know what it feels like.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Please God, do not allow the leftist GOP elites nor the Mainly Slime Media drive Gov. Perry out of the race. Please grant him all the ammo he needs to fight for and win the presidency.
The Perry Plan: Energizing American Jobs and Security
The Perry Economic Plan: Cut, Balance and Grow
[snip] Dynamic Tax Score for RickPerry.org, Inc. Proposal:
Based on the higher GDP estimates forecast by the dynamic scoring exercise, the Perry proposal will not only lead to an increase in overall economic activity and jobs, but will also lead to higher federal revenues in the long term. In fact, the analysis suggests that revenues could be as much as $406.8 billion higher than under the static model by 2020, and could be as high as 19.5 percent of GDP. The dynamic score of the proposal suggests that lower flatter taxes could generate both more revenue than the current tax code, and significantly more economic growth over time. With increasing demands on the Federal government from growing entitlements, higher pension expenses and interest on the debt, it will be necessary to increase the size of the economy and the tax base in order to generate significantly higher revenues. Table 7 shows how the Perry proposals would do this over a seven year period. [snip] Tax Proposal Score PDF
This Wont Play Well in South Carolina .Santorum went on John King USA on CNN tonight and again defended earmarks claiming Jim DeMint did it too without acknowledging DeMint repented and has since led the fight against earmarks. When asked about what he may or may not have said about black welfare recipients, Santorum defended himself by claiming he got earmarks for a black community in Pennsylvania.
Get ready for conservatives to have to refight this critical fight against the gateway drug to big government spending.
.Santorum is also going to have trouble in South Carolina because of his voting record. He opposed National Right to Work legislation.
In the 104th Congress Sen. Santorum joined all Democrats and a minority of Republicans in voting to filibuster the bill S. 1788, the National Right to Work Act of 1995. (On the Cloture Motion (motion to invoke cloture on motion to proceed to consider S.1788), Senate Bill Clerk, Vote Number: 188, www.senate.gov, 7/10/1996)
During that same congressional session, Santorum also voted to retain the 1930s-era Davis-Bacon Act that forces taxpayers to pay union wages in government-funded construction and gives Big Labor an unfair advantage over non-union companies and workers (On the Motion to Table (motion to table Kennedy Amendment No. 4031 to S.Amdt. 4000 to S.Con.Res. 57), Senate Bill Clerk, Vote Number: 134, www.senate.gov, 5/22/1996)
Santorum supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in 2004 helping Specter secure the nomination. Specter went on to cast the 60th vote for Obamacare and then lost, in 2010, to Pat Toomey. Toomey, now in the Senate, is con-sponsoring Jim DeMints National Right to Work legislation the very legislation Rick Santorum filibustered.
Santorum being on the wrong side of National Right to Work and Jim DeMint will do him no favors in South Carolina.
Sorry for missing this yesterday to ping. I was just so busy.
Perry's prominent supporters includes "Veteran's for Perry," Governor Jindall, Steve Forbes...and so many more less prominent people that still believe in America's greatness.
Amen !!
Amen to that. I’m behind him all the way.
I don't know how you keep up with it all as well as you do. I think you're doing great!
:o)
Very very nice. I see the Perry hater hordes have again started crapping on his threads. OH well, I’ve been saying the gates of hell have been opened against Perry so they seem to be doing the devils bidding. LOL. Just poor misled posters.
