IOWA SHOWS REPUBLICANS DETERMINED TO BEAT OBAMA
January 4, 2012It's been a mixed week for Mitt Romney's campaign. On one hand, Romney won Iowa, but on the other, he was endorsed by John McCain.
Until the first actual votes were cast Tuesday night, it appeared as if some elements of the Republican Party were becoming the mirror image of a liberal mob.
The wild swings -- at least in the polls -- from one populist right-winger to another suggested that some Republicans were determined to change the meaning of "conservative" from "normal person who wants to protect what's best in mainstream America" to "perpetually indignant, restless carper against everything, obsessed with symbolic issues, determined to punish the country for its impurities."
Some Republicans, we were led to believe, would only be satisfied with angry denunciations of Obama as a Kenyan colonialist and demands for Barack Obama's birth certificate -- without ever spending five minutes of calm contemplation to see that he had already produced it.
And if there's anyplace for a zealot to shine, it's in a caucus state like Iowa.
But Romney won -- in a razor-close finish with another plausible candidate, Rick Santorum.
The reason the Iowa caucuses rarely produce the party's eventual nominee is not because Iowans are wacky white Christians, as some in the media have claimed, but because caucuses are ridiculous ways to choose a presidential candidate. It is a process that empowers the pushy and loud, much like a Manhattan co-op board meeting, but, unfortunately, not like anything envisioned by our founding fathers.
Instead of arguing for hours in public with partisans in order to cast a ballot, voters are supposed to put on their shoes, fight off the Black Panthers on the way to their precincts, vote in private and go home.
So the fact that the Iowa caucuses avoided giving the gold to Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul or some other sure-to-lose candidate shows that Republicans are dead serious about beating Obama this fall. Even in Iowa, the only Republican with a chance of doing that won. Read More »

“IMO it’s important to post her columns here at Free Republic.”
IMO her columns don’t belong and you should be zotted for posting them. Her insane support of Romney is reason enough to ban her from FR.
Besides, anyone desirous of reading this whore can do so without you posting her. She can be found right on Drudge. IF folks what to read her bipolar ramblings...they can go there. Quit wasting bandwidth here. IMO
“how long before she starts a leftest website...”
As soon as conservatives realize she is NOT one of us, but merely pretends to be because that is the niche where see could sell books to the unwary. Then she would be forces to show her true colors.
I do believe that Peggy Noonan went this route that Ann is on and I don’t believe that it turned out well for Noonan’s book sales afterwards!
She will be writing for the Huffington Post before the end of the year...they are birds of a feather
Ann Coulter: the glamour is gone and unlikely to return.
I will get back to you in 5 - 10 years to see which way you swing at that time.
Coulter is a puzzlement to me.
How she could go from “Senator McCarthy was right” pieces...to this stuff.
Makes me think of sevaral scenarios:
She was a clever shill from the beginning.
The dark side finally got to her.
Or, she’s playing ‘Francisca d’Anconia’.
That got on my nerves, too.
Anyone seen TLBSHOW lately? ;-)
If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.
Or you can get raw with these strings.
How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).
Either way, the violin is sweet yet LETHAL.
Do it!
Can I suggest, without being ripped as Romneybot or a RINO or an idiot or a troll or someone who "hasn't recovered enough" the idea known in philosophical circles as Occam's Razor?
In other words, the SIMPLEST explanation is probably the best.
Maybe she believes Romney is the best choice.
Not everyone who believes Romney is a viable candidate is evil or stupid. Some are, yes. But all of them? If anything, she is taking a pro-SOMETHING stand.
I remember some media types in 2004, liberal ones, saying "We can't just say "I hate Bush!" The LIBERALS were saying, "We have to be FOR SOMEONE, not just AGAINST Bush." They were right...much of the 2004 message from the left was "Bush sucks!" And they lost...yes, I know a lot had to do with Lurch and the Breck Girl. But a lot also had to do, I think, with being merely ANTI-BUSH...
I despise Hussein's philosophy and governance as much as ANY of us here on Free Republic. I am still in the process of figuring out WHO I am for, as my state primary happens in only 27 days.
I respect ANYONE who pushes a pro-Mr. X candidacy, even if I disagree with their candidate's positions. At least they're out there promoting SOMETHING.
I believe THINKING people (and most long-time FREEPers, I think, are THINKING people) react better to "Here is why you should vote for X" than "X is a low down dirty scumbag, so you shouldn't vote for him."
I don't mean we shouldn't look at people's record, either--of course we should. Romney has done a lot to earn criticism...but so much of the invective I see here seems to be rants against Romney and precious little in the realm of "Instead, vote for _______".
Okay, I hope this is taken the right way. I do respect you all...I am just concerned about the seeming hatred for anyone who thinks Romney isn't an evil SOB. (I am not addressing the facts about Romney here, just the reaction to people who don't demonize him.)
Indeed...I wonder if Milt’s good in bed.
My question is why the frig “His Rickness” hasn’t dropped out yet.
Romney supporters are banned from being freepers but Ann Coulter is not a freeper. IMO, her columns ought to remain here until her gullible fan club on FR stops believing she's a heroic leader for conservatism in America. Just post her stuff like you would with any Romney article -- alert people with a big BARF ALERT before they start reading her stuff.
Freepers are asking "what the heck happened to Ann?!" and "she wasn't like this a few weeks ago, I want the old Ann back". Well, unfortunately for them, Coulter's support of Romney is nothing new. In fact, she's the one being consistent here... she supported Romney four years ago. At the time, her fan club tried to claim she was a "Duncan Hunter supporter" (because she said Hunter had the best conservative voting record in the House... by that logic, every Republican was a "Duncan Hunter supporter"... I said the same thing about his Reaganesque record but didn't vote for him in the primary because his campaign went nowhere. Then there's the spin that she "only endorsed Romney" as a last ditch effort to "stop McCain"... unfortunately for them, she was playing up Romney long BEFORE McCain was the only alternative. She even made it clear in this election that she would endorse Romney if Christie didn't run. It's like the southern RATs who become pro-life and pro-free market overnite, then announce the RAT has "changed" and "left them". Nice talking point but not true. The RAT party has been socialist and pro-abortion for decades. It didn't change it's platform, they changed theirs. I'm sorry to inform her fan club, but Ann didn't "change" and "leave you". Ann didn't become a Romney shill overnite, her fans decided to stop spinning her liberal record. (although they were still defending her as recently as her GOProud keynote address).
I was on to this scam artist years ago. She is the Michael Moore of the right (Mikey gets rich off capitalism while preaching against the evils of capitalism non-stop in public, Ann gets rich preaching "family values" and the evils of Islam while wining and dining with the Hollywood liberal elite and sleeping around with leftists.
I think Ann Coulter's betrayal of conservative values need to be up front and center on FR until gullible conservatives stop pre-ordering her latest novel about "conservative values" and lashing out at anyone who questions her. Otherwise, I'd be willing to bet quite a number of her groupies start drooling when she writes "BRAINLESS: How I'm such a great foe against evil liberals and you know it" . Peter King's fan club on FR gets similar bouts of amnesia whenever he's running for re-election and puts on a dog and pony show for conservatives about how pro-life and anti-Jihadist he is.
And since her fan club endlessly yapped how "hot" she is and how we're just jealous of a brainy beautiful conservative woman, blah blah blah, I think the FR "rules" need to remain in place so we can post photos of just how "hot" she is on every thread. Hey, they're the ones that demanded it. I'm just complying with their wishes. ;-)

Sir, it is your forum. If you want to keep someone that has become antithetical to conservatism (Ann Coulter) on your forum. Well that is your choice. However, you hurt, IMO, what I know you stand for.
Whereas, IF you were to ban her column from being posted here...then it would get back to her..and just might put some sense into her head. IF she trully is a conservative, maybe she will start talking like one again. It isn’t just about “getting Ann.” There is a place for trying to redeem someone that has strayed. Often to do so require a slap upside the head to first get their attention.
Obviously, Ann Coulter is desperate to defeat Obama and has bought into the notion that Mitt Romney is the only candidate running who can win. That explains her lukewarm endorsement for him and this is the first time I’ve seen her being lukewarm about anything.
She is sadly mistaken. However, no one is perfect and good people make bad decisions every day. I’ll still read her columns and just ignore anything good she has to say about Romney.
Thanks, Jim.
I appreciate you discerning the difference between a shill and a discussion of the latest opinion/pundit columns.
:)
She needs to cut out the booze and butts, for they are not allowed in the house of Mormon.
Why the Catholic baiting Ann?
