A shooting in Coronado, Calif., that left four people dead, including two Navy pilots and one of their sisters, is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.
The New Year's Day shooting in a condo there claimed the lives of siblings David and Karen Reis, 25 and 24, respectively, as well as David's roommate, John Reeves, 25, and a fourth unknown man.
David Reis and Reeves were both pilots in the Navy, and shared the condo home in Coronado, sources told ABC affiliate KGTV. The other dead man is a 31-year-old civilian who lives in Chula Vista, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The siblings and Reeves went out together in downtown San Diego to celebrate New Year's Eve Saturday night, and returned to the condo with the fourth man, whose identity has not been released, the sources said.
A retired Navy pilot who lives next door to the condo told KGTV that he heard seven shots early Sunday morning. "There were two shots, about a five-second pause, and then five more," Don Hubbard said.
Hubbard said he spoke with police after the shooting, who said they believed the crime was a murder-suicide and that they had found the murder weapon.

Apparently, Karen Reis had at some point been in a relationship with Reeves. The Reis siblings, Reeves, and another unidentified male accompanying Karen Reis go to a bar in Gaslamp where they meet Saturley for the first time. They five of them return to the Coronado condo at 2:00 am. The Reis brother and the unidentified man hang out outside while the other three go inside. Twenty minutes later four people are dead. Saturley is shot multiple times and Karen is shot in the head and chest. David Reis, hearing gunfire, enters the apartment where he is killed. Reeves then kills himself.
The fifth person remained outside and called 911. Saturley was murdered after knowing these people for just a few hours.
Only the best of the best get selected to fly F/A-18s. People who have been high achievers their whole lives. What happened in that 20 minutes to end everything for so many people?
As active duty navy and former Coronado resident, his crime was particularly shocking to me.
This story is strange. I hope the families get the truth.

Including that the Chula Vista guy was MIT and was the only one described as being shot “multiple times”.
Reeves confused about possible romance with roommate’s sister:

Pure speculation on my part here, but I think a fairly likely scenario is developing based on Reeves having dated Karen previously.
WHile David and the 5th person were outside my guess is that Reeves walked in on Karen and Saturly making out and lost it. Saturly being shot multiple times points straight to it being a spur of the moment emotional killing.
Reeves then shot Karen in his anger, and by this time David had probably run in and launched into Reeves who then shot him in his rage.
Realizing what he had done Reeves started to leave and then decided to just kill himself.
“My bet is they already know the motive, but are clearly holding back at this point.”
Exactly. Several people above have incorrectly stated that it was the stranger they picked up that did the murders, but it was NOT. It was one of the Navy pilots. All the indicators are pointing towards homosexual jealousy. It’s such a taboo subject that they are hesitant to release the details. The Navy also doesn’t want publicity about it either.
As that would beg the question, why would a complete stranger kill them all, and then himself? Again, not likely.
My bet is they already know the motive, but are clearly holding back at this point.

Don't know, as it seems this story/incident went into a black hole.
And what indicators would those be? Because to those of us who aren't pursuing an agenda, it's looking pretty clear that the object of jealousy was Karen Reis, killed by the man she was in a previous relationship with after bringing a new man over to his home.
Are you that obtuse?
That's pretty much the way I see it as well. Or something similar. I'm going to speculate Reis was hooking up with Saturley back at the bar (in the presence of her previous boyfriend) and decided to bring him back to her brother's and Reeves' place to continue the fun. At first Reeves likely thought he'd be cool with this but as the night wore on and fueled by jealousy, humiliation, stress and alcohol, Reeves finally lost it when they got home.
Why others here are intent on pursuing a homosexual angle to this story is beyond me.
Updates to this story have been on the front page of every San Diego news outlet since it happened.
It's a "see, I was right, look-at-me" thing.
I agree, I get disgusted everytime I read threads such as this, especially when the posters malign our servicemen with the new modus operandi involving sexual orientation........
Then the discussions turn to arguments.....over what? Heresay, innuendo and pure speculation......
As a fan of Hercule Poirot, I’d say you have nailed the entire scene accurately, except the activity between Saturly and Reis was probably a bit more ‘active’, to illicit such a murderous reaction.
When I lived in Coronado in the 1970s , I knew two guys (locals)who were brothers, and who constantly fought when we were drinking, one night, one of them gouged out both eyes of the other one.
Employing Occam's Razor, the most rational explanation is that Reeves was the ex-boyfriend of Karen Reis, and that the recently-divorced Saturley whom the group just met was a guy who was trying to pick up Karen Reis.
The New Year's party moved back to the apartment and jealousy and alcohol made Reeves snap.
“You seem awfully quick to try to deny homosexuality was involved.” Well, you seem awfully quick to throw homosexuality into the equation with zero basis of fact. Whats your evidence? None. You’re just throwing crap out there and defaming good people.
You think now that DADT is gone the queers are just going to start shooting each other? Oh they’ll be doing things to each other, but it won’t be shooting.
Spot on.
