In north-central Texas, Kyle grew up dipping tobacco, riding horses and hunting deer, turkey and quail a cowboy at heart.
The son of a Sunday-school teacher and a church deacon, Kyle credits a higher authority for his longest kill.
From 2,100 yards away from a village just outside of Sadr City in 2008, he spied a man aiming a rocket launcher at an Army convoy and squeezed off one shot from his .338 Lapua Magnum rifle.
Dead. From more than a mile away.
God blew that bullet and hit him, he said.

Its November 2004. Thanksgiving time. The second battle of Fallujah has launched, and Kyle is swaddled in silence atop an upturned baby crib, studying the enemy through a Nightforce 4.5-22 power scope attached to a .300 Win Mag rifle.
Hes feeling badass.
We just got word that the president of Iraq said that anyone left in the city is bad meaning, clear to shoot, he recalled for The Post. From that point on, every fighting-age male was a target.
Two silver stars and a bronze star with Valor. 160 confirmed kills.
“From that point on, every fighting-age male was a target. “
He probably has more discipline than me. I would not have discriminated between male and female.
He beat Hathcock by 67 confirmed kills.
You see us? Were the people kicking your ass. Fear us, because we will kill you, motherf—ker,
...this is the attitude necessary to win. Not awarding medals for “self constraint” and “tolerance”.
Fricking jack holes published his name.
Do SEAL snipers work with a spotter?
no kidding, probably several of our freedom loving peaceful American muzzies have already forwarded the info too. Just like how none of the Japanese rounded up during WWII were spies..
Carlos must be very proud of his legacy
It certainly looks like he published it himself first.
I look through the scope, get the target in the cross hairs and kill my enemy before he kills one of my people, Kyle writes in his new autobiography, American Sniper.
Chris Kyle's book, American Sniper
Another excellent sniper book: SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper
Probably twice that many unconfirmed.
NB what they say his first rifle was: Bolt action, .30-06.
I think everyone’s first rifle should be a single-shot, ie, either bolt action or falling block.
Too many kids I instruct in 4-H and other shooting educational situations are given 10/22’s as their first rifle and they lack discipline of making the first shot count because they have so many more with which to follow up.
Go read the article and you'll see why.
I gather this guy isn’t another total fraud like Jack Coughlin, the guy who wrote ‘Shooter: The Autobiography of the Top-Ranked Marine Sniper’?
I think that a spotter is standard.
Perhaps someone wiser than I knows why our snipers go for an instantaneous kill?
Why do we give our enemies what they most desire, a quick painless transition from a third world muslim hell-hole to a whorehouse-in-the-sky with fountains of milk and honey, and fully stocked with young boys and virgins for their every sexual pleasure and depravity?
Abdul envies Achmed’s luck when he sees Achmed’s head vanish.
Wouldn’t we be better served if Abdul had to hear hours of Achmed’s agonized screams and moans and curses, while Abdul and Akbar try to save him (even though they know he will never be whole even if he survives).
Wouldn’t Achmed be a less enthused jihadi if he knows that at any instant allah could will a sniper’s bullet to shred his love toys, give him a slow, lingering and humiliating death, followed by a one way ticket to an eternal paradise he no longer has the cojones to enjoy?
Aim small, guys...
It goes with the territory of being better than the savages we fight.
