They do not want Obama to lose come November, so they promote the Republican they think they’re most likely to beat: Romney.

I agree that Romney will have an uphill battle to try to defeat Obama. However, Gingrich and his baggage would have an even tougher battle.

The reason Gingrich's numbers are falling like rocks is because it took him 5 months after announcing to even reach double digits. He was sort of the next default go-to after Cain dropped out. Many younger people did not realize Gingrich's history and his EPIC FAIL in the late 90s. As facts about him came to light [aka, attack ads], many did not like what they were seeing.

Next up -- Santorum and Paul.

Wow. How weak is the GOP field? So far, Palin, Trump, Romney, Bachmann, Perry, Cain, and Gingrich have managed to rise to the top of the lists, only to sink. Now Paul and Santorum are nearing the top.

If Huntsman can just hang in there a while longer, he could end up being the last candidate standing/rising.

...many did not like what they were seeing.

And our manipulative "news" media are carefully keeping from tv viewers the actual physical size and shape of candidate Gingrich. He is old and fat and unappealing, and we have not had a president that looked that way since Taft, iirc.

The full frontal and profile views are being reserved for when/if he actually becomes a contendah.

"How weak is the GOP field?"

Where do you come up with this nonsense? The GOP field is stronger than anything the dRats have come up with in the last decade, at least. Stop listening to the "has beens" in the beltway cocoon.

Gingrich's dive began right after he said he'd bring federal judges before Congress in order for them to explain their decisions. I have no problem with this, except when I imagine the Congress being democrat controlled and the judge being a conservative who made a conservative decision. We all too often aplaud such things when a Republican does them but forget what happens when the democrats get back in power...

Take for example the Patriot Act enforcement under George Bush, as opposed to it now being under Obama and Janet Napolitano (SHUDDER).

Newt has a political tin ear, in my opinion. Stuff like this happened in the 90’s as well. He makes a statement like this, and (you know it will happen) the driveby’s and the democrats go ballistic, taking it all out of context and coming up with headlines that seem to make Newt look like a lunatic, as below:

“Gingrich's attack on the courts takes on the Constitution, too “

“Gingrich's assault on divided powers”

“Congress should direct US Marshals to apprehend judges”

“Gingrich threatens the judges”

Now you and I might very well understand what Newt is saying here, and even agree with it, but to the average wishy-washy voter out there, it sound like he's off his rocker.

So I don't know what to say about Newt. I could be happy to have him as president, but he really, really needs someone who is media astute to bounce his utterings off of before he makes them.

You don’t think Mitt’s 100% flip-flopping, Romney-care and his religion with its bizarre beliefs aren’t major baggage? Think BHO et al won’t go there? Oh, they WILL go there. Newt has a record of some very major achievements for conservatives.

None of these candidates are without flaws, so we’d best stop looking for perfection. The only one who won’t wither against BHO and the media is Newt. I wish I could say Perry as well, but sadly not. Mittens would be abysmal when challenged (just like in ‘08) - so far he hasn’t been challenged. The media’s given him a pass because they want him as nominee. That fact alone is reason enough not to support him.

Wow. How weak is the GOP field?

It's the media polling that lacks the Conservative and TEA Party folks who are actually going to cast ballots come Hades or high water.

Conservatives are being manipulated, by the push polls and by the trashing media.

I agree it's not a very good field. That said, the media and the polls push our candidates and then they trash them. Santorum, the new flavor of the month, will be found to be no better than the long list of candidates who preceded him. By that time the process will be complete. We will have three or four trashed candidates splitting the anti Mitt vote, and Mitt with his 30%, will take the nomination.
