Chicago - An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle that died when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. PETA's request to the Illinois Department of Transportation says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 head of cattle killed as a result of negligent driving in Illinois this year.
Ashley Byrne of PETA says the effort is part of a national campaign to call attention to how cattle suffer in the meat industry.
IDOT spokesman Josh Kauffman says the request likely will be denied. Rules require that only relatives who lost loved ones in highway crashes may request roadside memorials.
LOL! Yes I remember Popeye killing a cow with one fist...resulting in Bull-oney.
“We are living in the age of insanity.” George Putnam.
I held a fireside memorial for these noble beasts tonight. We honored them, medium rare with pepper, garlic and sea salt.
On a country road that I drive on to work,
some kind soul put up at sign.
The sign said “Slow porcupine crossing.”
About 15 feet beyond that sign, were 4 dead porcupines.
I wanted to put up a sign that said: “Too slow porcupine crossing.”
A roadside grill... Why did I read “IDOT” as “IDIOT”?
Moomorials!
I would prefer roadside crosses made from knives and forks.

How do you know those cows were Christian cows? They could have been Jewish as easily. How about a Star of David? What are you some kinda cow bigot or sumthin?
Call me crazy but I’m willing to go on the record and say that this person is an Obama campaign worker. I know, you’re probably thinking how could I make that assumption.
A common mistake here in Illinois where the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) put up a road sign near Illinois Central College, That read, I.C.C. College next right.
I eat meat, but I understand a lot of domesticated animals suffer needlessly at the hands of the meat industry. I applaud anyone who tries to see that animals arent abused.
Well, maybe PETA would like to set up memorials for deer killed on Iowa highways while they are at it. Perhaps some real “shovel ready” jobs in the making?...;)

You understand nothing, that does not happen.
The "meat industry" does not do domesticated animals, it does farm animals. And if feeding and caring for an animal from birth is so horrible, why are we trying to do that for welfare recipients?
We kill people a lot more painfully than we do our food. Electrocution, hanging are both horribly painful and humans are aware they are going to die. Of course we do kill MILLIONS of humans every year who are not aware that it is coming by burning they alive in strong salt solutions or pulling their bodies apart while they are alive with suction devices in abortions.
But animals we kill very cleanly and quickly. Torture we reserve for babies.
PETA are fools on a mission, don't join them.
What about all those innocent insects on all those windshields! Oh, the buggery!
