Wake deputy kills dog while searching for runaway teen (another 'isolated incident')
WRAL (Raleigh-Durham) ^ | December 29, 2011 | Beau Minnick

A Wake County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a couple’s 3-year-old dog Wednesday night while searching for a runaway teenager.

John and Linda Super say two deputies came to their home on King Circle, looking for a 15-year-old neighbor who had run away and had often spent time with them.

One of the couple’s dogs, Elvis, forced his way out the front door and ran outside as the couple talked to the deputies, they said. One of the deputies shot Elvis twice, including once in the back of the head, killing him, according to the Supers.

“All we’ve got is a dead dog and a lot of questions that need answers,” Linda Super said. “(Elvis) came running out, never bothered a soul, never opened his mouth, never woofed or nothing when he came out the door.”

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said the deputy, Roderick Belfield, said the dog was barking and running towards him. Belfield will not be punished for shooting the dog.

--SNIP--

Harrison said he is investigating whether Belfield or the other deputy, Kenneth Edward Kay, used profanity while subduing John Super, who was upset after the shooting. John Super says the deputies were rough with him.

One of the runaway teen's guardians said Elvis was "vicious" and had lunged for the deputy, something the Supers dispute

“(Elvis) was my fourth child,” Linda Super said. “He was like the center of our lives.”

(translation)

Teen runaways’ guardian has been to this this house before, demanding the teen return. Since he has been ‘confrontational’ the family dog doesn’t like him and has growled at him. That dog scares the piss out of him, so he calls the cops. He tells them the dog is a mean pit bull who will bite them.

The dog comes out the door, as the cops are roughing up the homeowner, and is reasonably on the defense. Most dogs would bark.

The cops fire at the dog, wounding him, then shoot him in the back of the head to ensure the kill.

Problem solved for ‘guardian’. Guardian has ‘proved’ to homeowner that he better not let ‘runaway’ into his home. Guardians get no money for runways that run-a-way.

I used to live in East Cobb, Georgia until they taxed my family away from there. The land was passed down for generations and they kept upping the + acreage private land out of existence.

One night at 3 AM I got a call from the Cobb Police asking me if I owned such and such car, etc. I said yes, they told me they had a police car outside and were searching for a runaway in the area. They didn’t want me to shoot one of their officers. At least they did their homework. I sleep with a 1911 and extra mags - always.

That looks like a pitbull. If it is, I can’t blame the deputy.

Looks more like a boxer to me. Watch the video at the link for a better picture.

But if you still can't blame that deputy, then blame this one for pepper spraying and then gunning down a ferocious Jack Russel Terrier two weeks ago (while he was trespassing):

Interestingly enough, same part of North Carolina as the thread article, but different Sherrif's dept. Makes one wonder if it is some kind of union policy.

Tricky dog that pitbull, it can bite facing away from its prey.

Lesson here: Don’t open your door to cops, unless they have a search warrant. Talk through the door.

He was like the center of our lives.

Perhaps they need to be re-centered.

I am going to let that idiotic comment slide and assume you have never had a dog which you became very close and attached to???

If it was me and my dog, whomever did so, absent any provocation (and simply coming up to a PIG, without snarling and teeth barred) shoot my pet, would be in for a "rough ride" and I better not be "carrying" if that happened!!!

They had a warrant for that place so they had all the justification to shoot anything that they felt threatened by.

The cops didn’t have a warrant for the boy and this dog didn’t threaten the cops according to the owners. Maybe the dog looked at the cops crossed-eyed or the ‘wrong way’ and that was all they needed to justify the shooting.

If you look at this thread

Suspicious Activity Reports From U.S. Malls Being Processed By Police State Fusion Centers
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2826443/posts

And read this quote

“As he shopped for a children’s watch inside the sprawling Mall of America, two security guards approached and began questioning him. Although he was not accused of wrongdoing, the guards filed a confidential report about Kleinerman that was forwarded to local police.
The reason: Guards thought he might pose a threat because they believed he had been looking at them in a suspicious way.”

I won’t be surprised that if in the near future when the cops stop you for looking at them funny it will result in being disappearing from society and being indefinitely detained or being shot to death. All the cops will say is that they feared for their lives or felt the security of the state was under possible threat and will be immune from any prosecution.

“Dog forced his way out the door”, Dog forced his way out the door. Do you need to read it again. The deputy broke the pit-bull down with the first round and put him out of his pain with the last one. Common sense 101.

The occasional cat (Felis catus Viking) can be trained to attack and when it does, it can do more than simply bite, but it can claw, leap up clothing and attach itself to faces. Cats have even killed dogs larger than they are; instinct tells them where the jugular vein is. Dogs may be scary but a cat like that would inspire terror — and what is jackboot going to do, shoot or pepper spray himself in the face?

What an ignorant statement. No offense.

But in this case, I would say he was putting the dog out of pain.

Do you have any evidence to back up that assertion?

the cop was trespassing. And the dog didn’t even bark. These overhasty cops think they are the bees knees when it comes to looking for “missing teens”. Teens go missing all the time., Reason being they do not want to contend with their parents. this jack leg cop had no business shooting that dog, (Although it is beyond me why anyone would want a pit bull, my cousin has one that is nice though. I wouldn’t own one under any circumstances.) Still, you can’t just go around shooting peoples’ dogs.

Pity the kid in the custody of a jackboot state. While from time to time there may be a true tragedy that a youth would be better off away from where there’s nobody in the family to step up, statistics show that foster families are more frequently abusive than the average biological family. Joker social workers often do not screen these foster.orgs worth a damn (or expect them to be way lefty) and often it’s just another way to get welfare.

Wrong the cop was not trespassing. Where did you make that up from??, The owner came out of the house to talk with them when the dog forced his way out of the door. And yes, in many places it is legal to shoot a dog running loose. It is where I live. I would like to see the owners arrest record, the druggies dog of choice.

Actually, the marine was shot for a pretty good reason. He THREATENED a SWAT team executing a legal search warrant with an AR-15 assault rifle. Pointing a rifle at a SWAT entry team is going to get you shot pretty much every time.

Yeah, yeah, I know...”pitbulls are good dogs, they have a bad rap, blah, blah...” I don’t buy it. I’ve seen even “gentle” pitbulls turn and too many thugs have bred them into living weapons.
