National Journal reporter Beth Reinhard got a chilly reception from Republican frontrunner Ron Paul when she ran into him eating his breakfast all alone at the Des Moines Embassy Suites. Reinhard asked the unaccompanied candidate whether his supporters would support the eventual nominee if it wasn’t him, which drew a sharp retort.
“Right now, the only thing that bothers me is people who don’t respect my privacy enough to leave me alone for five minutes when I’m eating breakfast,” Paul allegedly responded. Reinhard reports the Republican hopeful coldly went back to reading his USA Today.
Reinhard was not amused by Paul’s curmudgeonly reply:
Charming. (By the way, if this were to happen to Romney, which it wouldn’t, a SWAT team would immediately surround the reporter to oversee damage control.)
Paul, wearing a white shirt and jeans, insists he doesn’t have time for even one question because he needs to shave before a morning television appearance. A few minutes later, he tries to get the waitress’s attention and fails. Oh bother, he shrugs. And that’s exactly why the people who love the Texas congressman/tea party icon/libertarian standard-bearer love him so intensely. He’s just a cranky old man who wants to eat his eggs in peace before he sets out to save the world.
Paul’s quirky morning routine drew scrutiny on Twitter, such as this snarky response from Washington Post blogger Aaron Blake:
“Can’t I just eat my waffle?!”
Birds of a feather...
The important “alert” from this is that Paul reads “USA Today,” by choice. That, alone, should disqualify him from any Republican race.
Don’t mess with Grandpa before he’s had his Coffee,Bowl of Oatmeal and Prunes.......(Also don’t mess with Mittens before he’s combed his hair and put on a fresh pair of magic undies!) LOL
I guess Romney can now say Ron Paul is “always angry” as well!
Such a lovable old coot.
Beth should follow him into the men’s room to see if he has a wide stance.
In a way I agree with RP on this. Common courtesy is something reporters don’t understand. BOTOH he could have just had b’fast in his room.
With all due respect, as a frequent traveler any hotel that had a newspaper available always has USA Today. With that being said, why would he even bother to read the bird cage liner?
Don’t get me wrong, he is about as wrong headed to lead our country as the interloper was. Free Republic is the only newspaper I need to read. Everything else is just opposition research.
Hey let me tell ya, those prunes work..mix that with oatmeal and coffee and no wonder Paul was so cranky, he had to go potty
For once I have to agree with Ron Paul.......The damn media feel they have carte blanche to do whatever they want, whenever they want. I would have also used a vast number of expletives......
How many times has Ron Paul run for President?
I refuse to read or subscribe to any Gannett which USA Today is
Anyone willing to tell off a presstitute can’t be all bad.
In Ron Paul’s case, this random act of being ones self Is his redeeming aspect.
Not enough to justify a vote for him, though.
If he doesn’t want to be bothered maybe he shouldn’t eat in public places. What does he expect? He is running for president. Has common sense escaped these nominees?
LOL! Hey I know I have a better outlook on life and spring in my step when I have had my Morning BM...LOL(Dogs agree as well always so happy after he’s done his morning Obama)
Well if you read it, he wasn’t really eating his breakfast. He was reading a newspaper. For all we know, he might have already finished been finished with his breakfast.
What does he think is going to happen if he IS elected president? Or if he is even the nominee?
We heard Dick Morris make that statement about Paul’s liberalism. He didn’t hold back, and it was pretty terrifying. What’s Paul doing running on a Republican ticket, anyhow?
