Erector sets, microscopes, trains, chemistry sets - I can’t imagine growing up without them.

A few years ack, I decided I needed/wanted a microscope.

Didn't matter. Even a cheapo one would do. So I went to Wally World - zip. I went to Target - Nada. I went to about three more places, not a microscope in sight! Not one!

A couple weeks later I saw a few microscopes at Washington state surplus store and thought about it for a week or so, went back and got a Collegiate scope, about a 500 dollar scope for 40 bucks.

So it worked out ok but I was more than a bit steamed that the country that sent men to the moon, I can't even buy a cheapo one for a kid if I wanted to. At least not very easily.

Anyways this year my younger brothers and sisters conspired to send me one of these:

Problem being that the small bottle of calcium chloride had conspired to absorb enough water from the air that it leached out and corroded some of the back metal.

I can cut a piece of thin sheet metal and fix it up good, I will probably drill holes in the back so I can mount it on my wall somewhere...

Wow ....I have the atomic kit with the Dagwood Comic Book. Made a bunch of copies for friends at work.....LOL !

The chemistry kit was also a gift when I was young , just not sure if it was an A.C. Gilbert product. Led to my career in EOD etc ....:o)

Merry Christmas Sir !!

Stay Safe !

It was a kinder, gentler time.
